Job description

Scope

The Quality Control (QC) Internship provides a tremendous opportunity for a degree seeking individual to learn and becoming familiar with the Aggregate, Asphalt, and Ready-Mix Concrete industry. QC Interns will gain experience in many different aspects of New Enterprise's Materials business. Depending on length of internship, interns will be exposed to various Materials segment projects. Ideally, this program will help guide interns toward a career path that aligns with their interests and abilities. In addition, this program seeks to provide permanent employment opportunities upon graduation.

Internship Structure

A mentor will be assigned to each intern and will remain with the intern for the duration of the internship.  In addition, interns will interact with key positions across the Materials Division including Project Managers, Plant Superintendents, Area Managers, Departmental Managers, and vendors. These interactions and relationships are intentionally designed to help the intern develop their skillset and grow professionally.

Rotational Assignment Overview

Rotations will vary from office work to field and operational assignments. The primary function in each assignment will be to assist day-to-day processes and operations and create a work product through proper documentation. In addition, all interns will be responsible for learning and adhering to required safety protocols within each assignment. Travel to and from assignments and jobsites will be required. Travel expenses are reimbursable according to NESL Policy.

Quality Control Lab

  • Learn and become proficient in aggregate gradations, specific gravities, mix designs, and state testing requirements.
  • Work toward a state QC certification. Interns will most likely not be able to complete enough hours to earn a state certification in one summer.

Quarries

  • Learn and become proficient in Mine development and mining operations.
  • Learn the basics of operations, value stream mapping, and production reports.

Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA)

  • Learn and become proficient in HMA operations.
  • Become proficient with HMA product and mixes, product requirements, and applications.

Concrete

  • Learn and become proficient in Concrete operations.
  • Become proficient with Concrete product and mixes, product requirements, and applications.

Qualifications

  • Must be actively enrolled in degree program in business, engineering, geology, or related field.
  • Familiarity with construction and construction related activities.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong math skills and attention to detail.
Employment Type: Temporary (6 months or less)
