Job description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an Engineering Technologist or degreed Engineer to join our Area Operations Support Team. This role blends customer interaction, electric utility design, and project coordination, supporting the delivery of new or modified electric services for residential and commercial customers.
The hiring manager is open to Engineer-level candidates provided the individual is a degreed Engineer with electric utility experience.
Key Responsibilities

  • Review new and updated customer-facing work orders daily within the Maximo Work Management System
  • Communicate with customers via phone, email, and text to address questions, concerns, and project updates
  • Conduct on-site customer visits to gather field notes and develop design sketches for new or revised electric service
  • Design primary and secondary voltage equipment in accordance with utility standards
  • Develop cost estimates for customers prior to service where applicable
  • Complete engineering designs using the BOUD design tool
  • Coordinate with construction teams and resolve field issues through final meter installation
  • Ensure project documentation, sketches, and records are accurate and complete


Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Approximately 70% office / 30% field-based work
  • No hands-on electrical work required
  • Required to walk construction sites and perform light physical tasks such as hammering stakes and flagging equipment locations
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
  • Must wear appropriate PPE, including:
  • Hard hat
  • EH-rated safety shoes
  • Leather gloves
  • High-visibility traffic vest
  • Potential exposure to:
  • Outdoor conditions
  • Animals/insects (e.g., bees, wasps, ticks)
  • Uneven terrain and vehicle traffic
  • Valid driverโ€™s license required; personal vehicle needed (average ~100 miles/week driving)


Schedule & Overtime:

  • Standard 40-hour work week
  • During major storm events, there may be opportunities to support Damage Assessment/Scout activities, including paid overtime


Qualifications:
Education & Experience (one of the following):

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology with 4โ€“6 years of related experience
  • 10โ€“15 years of equivalent utility-related experience in lieu of a degree


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in the electric utility industry
  • Understanding of basic project management principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Experience preparing technical documentation, calculations, and design sketches
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple work orders
