Job description

SUMMARY
The Structural Engineer is responsible for preparing project drawings and bills of materials for projects under the Fire Facilities business unit. This position works closely with external stakeholders to ensure buildings are designed to customer needs while complying with all local permitting requirements. A key position in delivering timely and accurate design documents, BOMs, and other instructional documents for erection.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders (e.g., Customer, Architects, Engineers, Permitting Departments) and internal departments to develop creative designs that meet customers' needs, company standards, and all requirements of permitting agencies in a timely manner.
  • Manage complex design projects from pre-construction through permitting
  • Leverage expertise and independent judgement to do value engineering and deliver a creative and original solution that meets or exceeds customer needs and improves the efficiency and effectiveness of material and labor providers.
  • Independently lead design reviews. Listen to, manage, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements, answer requests for information and implement changes to arrive at designs that meet all requirements (code, costs, schedule, accuracy, quality).
  • Develop processes to produce 100% accurate material lists for each project.
  • Deliver a comprehensive set of documents and essential instructions that minimize the number of job site issues for implementation of each design.
  • Work with purchasing and suppliers to place purchase orders in a timely fashion. Resolve any questions and fix the root cause of any issues that impact the cost, quality, or timeliness of delivery of the project.
  • Stay current with design trends, changes in code, new materials, aesthetics, relevant artistic innovations, and company requirements to improve designs.
  • Continuously suggest and make process and design improvements to increase customer satisfaction, improve our core design / library, and increase process efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, legal contracts
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills where only limited standardization exists
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering
  • 1-3 years experience in drafting/detailing position, internships may be considered experience
  • Eligibility for PE and/or SE license
