Position description
The Division of Clinical Sciences at the University of California, Riverside, is recruiting a Chief Resident within the Department of Internal Medicine. We seek an individual who has distinguished themselves by embodying exceptional clinical & leadership skills, demonstrated over the course of their residency training, and is respected for their clinical judgment, teaching skills, and ability to work collaboratively with peers and faculty. The Chief Resident serves as a role-model, peer mentor, and advocate for the Internal Medicine residents. The successful candidate will teach at both the UC Riverside-affiliated hospital in San Bernardino and the UCR Health Clinic in Riverside and will see patients in conjunction with residents at the aforenamed clinic.
The UC Riverside Internal Medicine Residency Program seeks to provide high quality medical care to underserved populations who suffer from limited medical access and other social determinants of health in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. The residency sponsors both a preliminary medicine program having 10 interns, and a categorical medicine training program with 45 residents. The residency program offers inpatient training at an urban tertiary medical center and at a rural critical access hospital; outpatient education is offered at Veterans Affairs outpatient clinics and a UCR Health Clinic in downtown Riverside that cares for a diverse patient population.
Prerequisite Training:
• Successful completion or anticipated completion of ACGME accredited internal medicine residency program by the start date
• ECFMG Certification
• Eligibility for License to practice medicine in the State of California
Essential Chief Resident Responsibilities:
• Lead, moderate, and lecture as part of resident didactic series; manage and coordinate both the noon conference and ambulatory didactic schedule.
• Create, manage, and adjust resident clinical schedules; respond to inquires and disposition resident requests related to sick, vacation, and education leave.
• Provide one-on-one education and mentorship to residents.
• Provide one-on-one education and mentorship to both medical students and undergraduate students that participate in quality improvement projects and research relevant to residency initiatives.
• Precept residents in primary care clinic.
• Provide back-up clinical coverage for program director as needed.
• Participate in recruiting, vetting, and ranking candidates applying for internship.
• Participate in curricular innovation, development, and revision. In addition, contribute to quality improvement and innovations relevant to residency operations.
• Participate in and serve as active member of all residency committees, including program evaluation committee, wellness committee, and clinical competence committee.
The successful candidates must possess an MD or DO. Must be eligible to work in the United States. The successful candidates will also be expected to participate in research, scholarly activities, University, and public service. Applicants must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and at our affiliated hospitals as needed if inpatient practice is sought.
The posted UC salary scales ( Academic salaries | UCOP ) set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 for the salary. The Base Salary for this position is $78,900. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan ( 2021 02 11 Hscp%20 Plan ), which provides eligibility for additional compensation. At this rank, an initial appointment is limited to one year or less.
