Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re looking for a Senior Front-End Engineer to take ownership of our front-end platform and to multiply the team’s output by being thoughtful, opinionated, and AI-fluent in how that work gets done. This isn’t an execution-only role. You’ll spend roughly 70% of your time in the codebase, make architecture and tooling decisions that the rest of the team builds on, and teach the team what you learn along the way. The work is hybrid: one day a week in Longmont with the team, the rest from wherever you do your best focused work.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ADVENTURES
  • Own the front-end stack end-to-end — architecture, component patterns, build tooling, and CI/CD for the front-end codebase. Set the direction, then ship against it.
  • Build and maintain scalable web experiences using React, TypeScript, Node.js, Tailwind, and modern deployment platforms like AWS Amplify and Vercel.
  • Drive the front-end refactoring roadmap — identify systemic risks, propose pragmatic refactors, and sequence them against feature delivery without stalling either.
  • Collaborate with design, product, marketing, and engineering to ensure alignment across initiatives, and translate design intent into resilient, performant interfaces.
  • Contribute to A/B tests, feature flags, and analytics implementations to support data-driven decision making.
  • Work with APIs and microservice-driven architecture to integrate features and improve performance.
  • Mentor the team on platform discoveries — through code review, pairing, internal docs, and short tech talks. You’ll surface patterns and pitfalls; teach those, so the whole team levels up.
  • Deliver well-documented, high-quality code that improves site speed, accessibility, SEO, and overall customer experience.
TECHNICAL EXPECTATIONS
  • Deep proficiency with React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Tailwind, with the ability to design component architecture for non-trivial applications and defend your tradeoffs.
  • Production Next.js experience — you can pick a rendering strategy (SSR/SSG/ISR/CSR) based on business and infrastructure constraints, and explain why.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining apps in Vercel, AWS, and Amplify.
  • Hands-on experience with A/B testing frameworks (Amplitude, Segment, GA4, or equivalent), feature flags, and CMS integrations/migrations (especially headless).
  • Solid understanding of API integrations and working in microservice-driven environments, including holding your own in API design conversations.
  • Performance instincts — you profile before you optimize, and you know what Core Web Vitals are measuring and how to move them.
  • Build tooling and CI/CD ownership — you’ve configured, debugged, and improved real pipelines, not just consumed them.
  • Demonstrated experience with GitHub for version control and working within CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient, reliable, and automated delivery of front-end applications.
AI-FORWARD EXPECTATIONS

This role requires you to be AI-forward. We mean that specifically — not as a buzzword, but as a daily practice:

  • You actively use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) and have opinions about when they help and when they don’t.
  • You can show concrete examples of AI-assisted work that shipped — production code, refactors, or tests, not toy demos.
  • You’re comfortable establishing team patterns for AI use: prompt conventions, review practices, where to trust output, where to verify.
  • You see AI fluency as a leverage activity. One AI-fluent senior should compound the team’s velocity, and you understand why.
BUSINESS & PEOPLE EXPECTATIONS
  • Communicate progress and results effectively through release notes, video walkthroughs, and demos.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and marketing teams to deliver high-impact initiatives.
  • Coordinate with engineering peers on QA automation and backend support.
  • Mentor more junior teammates — through code review, pairing, and sharing what you learn during the replatform. This is leverage, not overhead.
  • Influence the front-end roadmap — bring technical insight that helps product partners make better tradeoff decisions.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • 5–8 years of professional front-end engineering experience, with at least 3 in a senior or ownership-level capacity.
  • Previous work in e-commerce environments strongly preferred.
  • Background in SaaS or digital product development a plus.
  • Experience with performance optimization, accessibility, SEO, and analytics best practices.
  • Experience with headless CMS and design system / component library ownership.
  • GraphQL experience (schema design, federation, or client-side patterns) a plus.
OUR IDEAL PERSON
  • A strong problem solver who can work independently and deliver reliable solutions while still bringing the team along.
  • Naturally collaborative, able to work smoothly with multiple stakeholders across product, design, and engineering.
  • Embraces a team-first mindset and contributes to a positive engineering culture — including mentoring teammates as a default behavior, not a chore.
  • Curious and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and improve continuously, especially as tooling and AI workflows evolve.
  • Has opinions, lightly held — comfortable advocating for an approach and equally comfortable changing course when the evidence shifts.
POSITION SCHEDULE DETAILS
  • Full-time position, hybrid — must reside within approximately 90 miles of Longmont, CO.
  • One day per week onsite in the Longmont office.
  • Standard schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week.
  • Rare after-hours work (1–2 times per year).
  • Potential for ~1 week of travel per year for team gatherings or key meetings.
  • Pay Range: $145,000 – $165,000. Final offer depends on demonstrated scope, depth of front-end ownership, and counteroffer environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. We are not sponsoring visas for this role.
BENEFITS & PERKS
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage (PPO and high-deductible options).
  • Annual company contribution toward HSA for high-deductible plan enrollees.
  • Life insurance and short-term disability insurance covered at 100%.
  • Voluntary benefits: accident & critical illness, long-term disability, identity theft insurance.
  • Flexible PTO and paid holidays
  • Paid maternity leave (FMLA qualified) and parental leave.
  • 401(k) with company contributions
