Job description

Are you looking to gain valuable, hands-on engineering experience? Hoosier Energy is offering two paid engineering internships for the summer of 2026. We are seeking organized, self-motivated engineering students who have completed at least one year of college by the time of the internship and are preferably majoring in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering. The internship will run from June to September, with flexible start and end dates, and will involve 40 hours per week. AutoCAD experience is a plus.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience in the operation and design of an electrical utility system, including substation design, transmission line design, protection engineering, data analytics, and reliability. As an engineering intern, you will:

  • Assist reliability engineers in analyzing reliability data and contribute to engineering information management efforts.
  • Support data collection, analysis, and utilization for reliability and asset management projects, while gaining hands-on experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of transmission lines and substations.
  • Collaborate with field personnel to assess the condition of transmission lines and substations and support the construction and design of engineering projects.
  • Work alongside engineers in the development of drawings for future projects, contributing to the creation of engineering documentation.
  • Support design engineers on transmission line, substation, protection, and communications projects, gaining exposure to the design and planning of these critical infrastructure elements.
