Job description

The IT Support Intern assists the Information Technology department with daily operational and technical support activities while gaining practical experience in enterprise IT operations. Working under the guidance of experienced IT professionals, the intern provides basic end-user support, prepares and deploys computing equipment, assists with IT asset management, supports infrastructure organization projects, and performs entry-level technical and administrative tasks.
This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in enterprise IT support, infrastructure operations, customer service, cybersecurity awareness, documentation, and technology lifecycle management while developing foundational technical and professional skills.
The primary purpose of this internship is to support the daily operations of the Information Technology department while providing the intern with practical experience in enterprise IT. The intern will assist with routine support activities, equipment preparation, asset management, documentation, and infrastructure organization under the supervision of experienced IT personnel.
Primary Responsibilities
End-User Support
  • Assist with basic desktop, laptop, and peripheral support.
  • Prepare, configure, provision, and deploy computers using approved organizational procedures.
  • Install approved hardware, software, and peripheral devices following documented procedures.
  • Assist with workstation setup for new employees.
  • Help relocate computers, monitors, docking stations, printers, and related equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting under the supervision of IT staff.
  • Escalate technical issues requiring advanced support.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to end users.

Asset Management
  • Inventory computers, monitors, printers, and other IT equipment.
  • Label and organize IT assets.
  • Update asset inventories and equipment records.
  • Assist with equipment deployment, redeployment, storage, and retirement activities.
  • Prepare retired equipment for secure disposal or recycling in accordance with company procedures.
  • Help maintain organized IT storage areas and spare equipment inventories.

Infrastructure Support
  • Assist with organizing network closets, server rooms, equipment storage areas, and IT workspaces under the supervision of authorized IT personnel.
  • Label network cables, patch panels, racks, and equipment.
  • Support approved cable-management activities to improve organization and documentation.
  • Assist with documenting infrastructure layouts and equipment inventories.
  • Help install and organize approved IT equipment under supervision.
  • Do not disconnect, relocate, terminate, or modify active network or electrical connections unless specifically trained, authorized, and supervised.

Administrative Support
  • Update technical documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Help create and update standard operating procedures.
  • Organize technical documentation and support materials.
  • Assist with software license, warranty, and maintenance records.
  • Perform administrative tasks supporting the IT department.

Project Support
  • Participate in technology deployment and equipment refresh projects.
  • Assist with office moves and workstation installations.
  • Support infrastructure organization initiatives.
  • Help prepare equipment for technology upgrades.
  • Complete project tasks assigned by senior IT staff.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the IT department.

Cybersecurity and Compliance
  • Follow all organizational cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Protect confidential company information and technology assets.
  • Handle IT equipment in accordance with company security requirements.
  • Report suspected security concerns or policy violations to supervising staff.
  • Complete required cybersecurity and compliance training.
  • Perform assigned work in accordance with established IT policies and change management procedures.

  • Ability to follow documented procedures and technical instructions.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while seeking guidance when appropriate.
  • Ability to safely handle and move typical computer equipment and peripherals, with assistance when required.

  • Completion of introductory coursework in information technology or computer science.
  • Previous customer service, technical support, or computer repair experience.
  • Experience assembling, upgrading, or troubleshooting personal computers.
  • Familiarity with printers, peripherals, and endpoint devices.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, structured cabling, and wireless connectivity.
  • Experience using standard office productivity applications.
  • Entry-level technical certifications such as CompTIA Tech+, CompTIA A+, or comparable foundational certifications are desirable but not required.
