Job description

  • Position Summary
    • The role of the Exercise Physiologist is: 1. to develop exercise prescriptions that will improve the patient's cardiovascular system, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility fitness without exceeding safe exercise limits, 2. to present education to clients introducing them to health related issues, benefits and myths of exercise. 3. to assist with Cardiopulmonary Stress Testing under the supervision of the physician. 4. to coordinate and supervise research and provide long-term client goals and assessments. 5. to promote confidence in the client's ability to achieve personal fitness and wellness goals.

    • 1 Year Clinical - Required
    • Six month's experience in exercise related field. (Internships accepted) - Required
  • License & Certification
    • American College of Sports Medicine - Preferred
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Required
  • Core Job Functions
    • Equipment is cleaned, calibrated and locker rooms maintained to ensure safety for all patients utilizing facility.
    • Communicates and documents patient assessment, response to exercise and progress during assessment and daily circulating when covering the floor. Reassessments are completed, as needed.
    • Educational design includes overall program/activity goal, learning objectives, appropriate curricula, program components and methods of evaluation, including outcome measures. Staffing and instructor qualifications are considered to meet the program needs. Educational programs/activities are designed to incorporate principles of adult learning, or age-related developmental stages and include provisions for special standards by ACSM and AACVPR.
    • Exercise prescription is developed, adjusted, and documented based on fitness test and recommendations from physician. Exercise plan and education are tailored to individual needs of the client and family. Explanation of expected and actual physiological response to exercise is provided and accurately recorded on appropriate forms.
    • Designs, develops, updates and evaluates educational curriculums. Accreditation standards and principles are incorporated in educational planning. Participates on committees and serves as a content expert when applicable.
    • Works with the client to identify mutually acceptable goals. The goals reflect information obtained through the assessment process. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
