Job Duties

North Shore Health has several positions available in the Lab for a Lab Tech (MLT or MLS). We have a full time opening and several Casual positions. This is a generalist position that includes testing in all areas of the lab: Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Medicine. Other required duties are: phlebotomy, specimen processing, clerical and technical tasks, continuing education, competency, training, and other lab responsibilities as needed.

We provide laboratory services for outpatients and Care Center residents as well as 24/7 laboratory services for our hospital and emergency departments. Applicants must be willing to work day and evening shifts, as well as a rotation of on-call hours, weekends, and holidays. This is a professional position that requires a high level of responsibility. Applicants must be reliable, self-motivated, able to work both independently and as a team, have excellent communication and multi-tasking skills, and also demonstrate quality, efficiency, and integrity throughout all aspects of their job functions.

Minimum Education Required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: Successfully complete Student Practicum/Internship required for Associate's Degree Program. Typically includes a minimum 16 weeks of hands on training in a Hospital Laboratory setting. Internship must include General, Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology laboratory experience.

EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Technician, or Bachelor’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Scientist, which includes a med tech internship from an accredited medical technology program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Eligible for and successfully complete ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) within 6 months of date of hire; or equivalent certification, with approval by the Laboratory Medical Director.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years experience as a Laboratory Generalist, two (2) years experience in Transfusion Medicine, and two (2) years experience in Microbiology.

EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Technician, or Bachelor’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Scientist, which includes a med tech internship from an accredited medical technology program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
