What is an Internship Medical Spa RN job?

An Internship Medical Spa RN job is a temporary position where a registered nurse (RN) gains hands-on experience in a medical spa setting. Interns typically assist with non-invasive cosmetic procedures, patient consultations, and pre- and post-treatment care under the supervision of experienced professionals. This opportunity allows RNs to develop specialized skills in aesthetic medicine while learning about skincare treatments, injectables, and laser therapies. It is ideal for nursing students or recent graduates interested in the medical aesthetics field.

What types of procedures and treatments will I assist with as an Internship Medical Spa RN?

As an Internship Medical Spa RN, you will typically assist with a range of non-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as injectables (Botox and fillers), laser treatments, chemical peels, and skin rejuvenation therapies. You may also help with pre- and post-procedure patient care, consultations, and educating clients on treatment options and aftercare. Your experience will depend on the medical spa’s services and your level of training, but internships are designed to offer broad exposure under the supervision of experienced providers. This hands-on training helps you build competency in specialized aesthetic procedures while enhancing your general clinical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Internship Medical Spa Rn position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Medical Spa RN, you need a current RN license, foundational nursing skills, and a basic understanding of cosmetic and dermatological procedures. Familiarity with clinical tools such as lasers, injectables, and electronic medical records (EMR) systems is often required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn make candidates stand out in this internship. These qualifications and attributes are important for delivering safe, effective patient care while adapting to the unique environment of a medical spa.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient-Centric Care (Clinic & OR):
•    Serve as the central point of clinical contact, guiding patients seamlessly from initial consultation through to their final post-operative visit.
•    Perform comprehensive pre-operative consultations and post-operative follow-up care, including wound care, drain management, and suture removal, always prioritizing patient education and comfort.
•    Act as a patient advocate in the OR and PACU, ensuring their safety and managing their recovery with a compassionate and reassuring presence.
•    Assist physicians with in-office procedures, including injectables, laser treatments, and other non-surgical services.
Clinical & Operational Excellence:
•    Function as a highly competent circulating nurse, managing the OR environment to ensure efficiency and sterility.
•    Prepare patients for surgery, including starting IVs, administering medications, and completing final safety checks.
•    Maintain meticulous documentation, manage patient charts for medical clearances, and ensure all pre-surgical requirements are met.
•    Contribute to inventory management, sterilization processes, and maintaining a pristine and well-stocked clinical environment.
•    Act as a key liaison between the surgical team and the patient’s family, providing clear and timely updates.

Required Skills/Qualifications:
•    Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current Washington state RN licensure.

•    A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a plastic surgery, dermatology, or medical spa setting is essential.
•    Direct experience in a perioperative setting (circulating or PACU) is strongly preferred.
•    A confident, team-oriented attitude with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
•    Proven ability to work autonomously, think critically, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
•    Experience with injectables (e.g., Botox, fillers) and other non-surgical aesthetic treatments is a significant plus.
