Job Description
R&D Technical Lead - Advanced Software Development, ICE Imaging (Cambridge)
The R&D Technical Lead will provide technical leadership for the Advanced Development (AD) Software workstream supporting the ICE Software Innovation Program, leading the definition, development, verification, and maturation of advanced ultrasound imaging and navigation algorithms while serving as the primary technical interface across software engineering, acoustics engineering, clinical, marketing, and program management teams.
Your role:
  • Lead the Advanced Development Software workstream, including technical strategy, roadmap, architecture, algorithm development, feasibility assessments, proof-of-concept activities, and decision-making working in close collaboration with Philips Ultrasound on image-guided intervention features to be included in a medical imaging software application.
  • Act as a Core Team member representing the AD Software workstream, ensuring technical alignment from research and prototype development, defining success criteria, and performance measures, managing risks, and influencing cross-functional planning and decision-making.
  • Mentor software engineers, scientists, and algorithm developers, fostering collaboration across geographically distributed teams and serve as the primary technical escalation point for software workstream issues.
  • Lead development, tuning, verification, and validation of advanced computer vision, image processing, and AI-enabled ultrasound algorithms.

You're the right fit if:
  • You've acquired 8+ years of experience developing medical imaging, computer vision, image processing, robotics, navigation, or AI algorithms. Experience includes leading cross-functional R&D technical projects in regulated medical device environments with demonstrated success transitioning research concepts into commercial products.
  • Your skills include Ultrasound imaging, image processing, medical image analysis, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, navigation systems, and medical imaging workflows. Development tools experience like Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, Git, and build/DevOps tools experience like CMake, Jenkins, GitHub actions. Other skills include C++, Python, MATLAB, or equivalent technical programming environments, algorithm verification, validation, and performance evaluation. And experience working in agile software environments like SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban.
  • You have a PhD or MS in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Robotics, or related technical fields.

  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.

You're a technical leader who applies deep ultrasound image processing expertise to ambiguous advanced development problems, balancing technical innovation, clinical relevance, and execution discipline with the ability to influence decisions and drive alignment across teams without relying on direct authority.

Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company's facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company's main facilities, generally at the customers' or suppliers' locations.

Philips Transparency Details
The pay range for this position in (MA) is $157,000 to $249,000
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. Employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive Philips Total Rewards benefits program, which includes a generous PTO, 401k (up to 7% match), HSA (with company contribution), stock purchase plan, education reimbursement and much more.
