The Lead Image Chain Systems Engineer (Detector Integration) is a senior technical leader responsible for advancing Hologic's x-ray imaging platforms through innovation in detector subsystems and full image chain optimization.
This role drives the exploration, development, improvement, and integration of x-ray detectors and sensor architectures, delivering measurable system-level performance improvements and new acquisition modes across mammography, DXA, and specimen imaging platforms.
You will operate as a hands-on expert and mentor, setting technical direction, executing complex R&D programs, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver robust, compliant solutions aligned with Hologic's technology roadmap. This role is located in Newark, DE.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead development, test, and integration of x-ray detectors and sensor solutions across multiple product platforms
  • Drive innovation in detector designs, readout schemes, and performance-enhancing modes.
  • Drive innovation in detector architectures, readout electronics, and performance-enhancing acquisition modes
  • Lead end-to-end signal-chain development, including analog front-end, digitization, calibration, and dose management.
  • Evaluate and mature new detector technologies and architectures
  • Support pre-processing pipelines, from flat-field optimization to advanced image-quality enhancement.
  • Establish and execute image-quality metrics and test methods.
  • Deliver system-level performance improvements through signal processing and calibration techniques
  • Guide alignment of detector technologies with platform system architectures
  • Support prototyping, benchtop testing, and early-stage system integration
  • Lead initiatives while remaining hands-on through design, bring-up, validation, and technology transfer
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver robust, compliant solutions in a regulated environment.
  • Support IP strategy, risk management, requirements, design reviews, and verification documentation.

Knowledge
  • Understanding of medical imaging systems, including x-ray physics, x-ray tubes, digital detectors, and basis of image processing algorithms.
  • Proficiency in detector signal chain design, encompassing, x-ray conversion materials, pixel sensor backplanes, analog front-end amplifiers, digitization, timing, calibration, and noise modeling & management.
  • Practical experience with detector embedded HW/SW systems and readout schemes architectures, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of hardware/software interoperability and the design of scalable, modular technology platforms.
  • Experience with front-end technology exploration, proof-of-concept development, and early-stage system integration & validation.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards for medical devices (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, FDA design controls) and risk management practices.
  • Experience with system engineering principles, requirements development, and integration of complex medical imaging systems.
  • Competence in technology transfer, documentation, and cross-functional product development processes.

Qualifications:
Education
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering/Science, or related field.
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in x-ray imaging systems with demonstrated ownership of detector-centric programs.
  • Hands-on development and commercialization experience with medical devices & systems
  • Experience across early technology exploration, new product development, and design controls in regulated medical device environments.
  • Experience leading technical teams or sub-teams while remaining hands-on.
  • Track record adapting technologies to common platform architectures and creating reusable modules/components.
  • Experience with IP generation (disclosures, patents) and technology partnerships with suppliers and academia.

The annualized base salary range for this role $119,300 - $186,600 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
