Job Title: Teacher - Career & Technical Education (CTE) - STEM / PLTW Engineering
Reports To: Principal
Organization: Tejano Center
Division: RYSS
Location: District-Wide
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide students with rigorous learning activities and experiences in STEM and Engineering to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will lead the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering program, delivering standards-based, data-driven instruction that prepares students for college and careers in a global economy.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Career and Technical Education certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned.
  • Allowable certificates include Technology Education: Grades 6-12; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics: Grades 6-12; or Mathematics/Physical Science/Engineering: Grades 6-12.
  • Successful completion of PLTW Core Training requirements (approximately 90 hours of instruction led by PLTW Master Teachers) or willingness to complete training.

Experience:
  • One year of student teaching or an approved internship.
  • Preferred: Two to five years of wage-earning industry experience in engineering or a related technical field.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and industry standards for Engineering.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools and software, including CAD (e.g., Autodesk Inventor), robotics, and 3D printing.
  • Ability to oversee student field experiences and Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).
  • Knowledge of lab safety procedures and preventive maintenance for technical equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; specialized Engineering/STEM lab tools.
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking and repetitive hand motions for keyboarding.
Lifting: Regular light lifting (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting up to 35 pounds of textbooks or lab equipment.
Environment: Primary work is inside a classroom or lab; regular exposure to noise; may require occasional irregular or prolonged hours.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; manage frequent interruptions.
