Job description

The Global Commodities Gas Trading Team helps clients manage risk and access liquidity. In this role, you’ll help build a durable U.S. Gas franchise by delivering differentiated market intelligence, rigorous analytics, and a disciplined operating cadence that supports trading, risk governance, and client engagement.

Job summary:

As an Executive Director on the Global Commodities team, you will lead the day-to-day research, analytics, and desk support for the U.S. Gas Basis business. You’ll translate fundamentals, market structure, and flow/liquidity signals into actionable views, scenarios, and decision frameworks for Traders, Sales, and Structuring. You’ll partner closely with Technology and QR to enhance data, tooling, and reporting, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and develop a high-performing analytics platform.

Job responsibilities

  • Build and scale a U.S. Gas desk research/analytics platform through expanded coverage, repeatable processes, and institutional-quality deliverables

  • Set the operating cadence for market intelligence (pre-market prep, intraday updates, post-market recap) to ensure consistent, decision-useful communication to stakeholders

  • Monitor fundamentals and market structure (supply/demand, storage, LNG dynamics, congestion, outages, weather, transmission constraints, regulatory and rule changes) and convert insights into actionable positioning implications, scenarios, and event playbooks

  • Develop and maintain analytics that support portfolio construction and monetization discipline (basis/curve diagnostics, relative value frameworks, seasonal/event studies, liquidity indicators)

  • Partner with Sales/Structuring to support client solutions with market color, trade rationale support, and post-trade learnings, consistent with applicable controls and information-sharing standards

  • Drive enhancements to data, tooling, and reporting in partnership with Technology and QR, improving reliability, speed, and auditability of the desk’s analytics and workflow

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Proven ability to lead a desk research/analytics function (or equivalent senior analytical role) with consistent impact on trading decisions and franchise outcomes

  • Deep expertise in U.S. Gas markets, including market structure, key pricing drivers, basis dynamics, and regional/infrastructure considerations

  • Significant experience producing actionable, time-sensitive market analysis and scenario frameworks under pressure with high initiative and ownership

  • Strong judgment and governance mindset with clear, transparent escalation practices and comfort operating in a controlled environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to distill complex drivers and uncertainty into concise, decision-oriented messaging

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Track record partnering with Technology and quantitative teams to enhance analytics, data pipelines, tooling, and standardized reporting (including data quality and model governance considerations where applicable)

  • Strong people leadership experience building high-performing, inclusive analyst teams across functions

  • Experience expanding coverage into new regions, instruments/venues, or tenors through research buildout, back-testing, and readiness frameworks
