Job description

The RoleΒ 

We'reΒ looking for a stellar intern to join our team for aΒ 3Β monthΒ internship. Working closely with K2 engineers in a highly collaborative environment, you willΒ be responsible forΒ owning a software engineering project end-to-endΒ and supporting actual on-orbit operations of ourΒ spacecraft. You will interact with advanced technologies like cyber-physical system simulators, satellite sensors and actuators, build systems, GNC algorithms, and more.Β 

ResponsibilitiesΒ 

  • Create software architecture for real-time, fault-tolerant control of a 20kW+ spacecraftΒ 
  • Develop software applications for control of spacecraft subsystems, including propulsion, guidance/attitude control, thermal, power, and communications systemsΒ 
  • Design and implement state machines for robust operation of the spacecraftΒ 
  • Create andΒ utilizeΒ robust tools to allow for rapid deployment of quality codeΒ 
  • Perform data analysis and anomaly investigation toΒ identifyΒ and resolve software bugsΒ 
  • Support integrationΒ andΒ testingΒ of the spacecraft subsystemsΒ 
  • Build andΒ maintainΒ infrastructure to increase reliability when developing and testing softwareΒ Β 

QualificationsΒ 

  • Must be currently enrolled in aΒ Bachelor's or Master'sΒ degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplineΒ 
  • 6+ months of experience using technical engineering skills outside of the university classroom setting (eg: laboratory, research, extracurricular project teams, volunteering, personalΒ projectsΒ or prior internship/work experience)Β 
  • Development experience in Rust, C/C++, or GoΒ 

Additional RequirementsΒ 

  • Available for a minimumΒ 12Β weekΒ internship in person at our HQ in TorranceΒ

  • Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with technicians, engineers, and managersΒ 
  • Experience with spacecraft flight software developmentΒ 
  • Experience with Linux systems programming and driver developmentΒ 
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery systemsΒ 
  • Experience building or working with hard real-time embedded systems (bare-metal or RTOS)Β 
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, computer architecture, and control systemsΒ

CompensationΒ Β 

  • Hourly pay range for this non-exempt role is $30 - $40 per hourΒ Β 
  • Hourly rate will be based on several factors including, but not limitedΒ to:Β knowledge and skills, education, and experience levelΒ 
  • Housing and travel stipend may also be availableΒ
