Job description

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of San Mateo County recruits, trains and supports volunteers to work one-on-one with children and youth in the San Mateo County foster care and juvenile justice systems. CASA volunteers form trusted relationships with young people, acting as a mentor and advocate for in court and the larger community. By being a consistent adult presence in a child’s life amidst changing homes, caretakers, social workers and other professionals, our volunteers provide hope and healing to children who are navigating traumatic circumstances.

Position Overview:

We are looking for an intern volunteer that can help support communications and outreach through social media. This internship is hybrid with one in-person meeting or event in Redwood City most weeks. This is an unpaid internship and intended to be a learning and professional development opportunity for students studying communications and related fields, marketing, or non-profit management

Key Responsibilities:Social Media Account Setup & Management
  • Assist with creating, setting up, and connecting CASA of SMC social media accounts on Facebook, YouTube, and LinkTree
  • Help ensure account branding, bios, and basic settings align with CASA guidelines
Content Planning
  • Use and adapt California CASA social media calendars to build CASA of SMC’s monthly content calendar
  • Research and suggest relevant awareness days, weeks, and months connected to CASA’s mission (e.g., Foster Care Awareness Month)
  • Identify content gaps, trends, or timely opportunities CASA of SMC could respond to, including relevant hashtags or social trends
Content Creation
  • Edit posts provided by California CASA
  • Draft and design original posts using Canva
  • Assist with creating short-form video content such as Instagram Reels and Stories
  • Develop a series highlighting CASA volunteers
  • Brainstorm and help produce a video series highlighting programs and resources for volunteers or youth
  • Support content creation for CASA’s upcoming events, including CASA’s 20th year anniversary event, such as save-the-date posts and videos
Community Engagement
  • Support engagement on social media platforms by:
    • Liking and commenting on posts from CASA partners, local organizations, and followers
    • Sharing relevant content to Instagram Stories
    • Responding to simple comments or direct messages, with oversight as needed
Scheduling, Posting & Asset Management
  • Upload and schedule posts using Hootsuite and Meta Business
  • Compile and organize story content in Box
  • Clean up, transfer, organize, and maintain CASA of SMC’s photo and video assets, including:
    • Sorting files into clearly labeled folders
    • Renaming files for consistency and easy retrieval
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
  • Track basic engagement metrics weekly or monthly, such as likes, reach, and follower growth
  • Summarize insights on what content is performing well and suggest ideas for improvement
