Job Description Summary
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Fine, Digital & Performing Arts (FDPA) Department at Shawnee State University supports instruction and creative work in the visual and performing arts. Life Models support the department's studio art instruction by posing for faculty-led drawing sessions and providing students with the opportunity to study the human form through direct observation.
POSITION SUMMARY, ROUTINE TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The FDPA Life Model works with faculty and students during scheduled life drawing sessions. This is an as-needed position, with assignments scheduled according to course and departmental needs.
Routine tasks and responsibilities may include:
• Pose for life drawing sessions as directed by the course instructor.
• Maintain assigned poses for specified periods of time, including short gesture poses and longer poses.
• Follow faculty instructions regarding pose, positioning, breaks, and session expectations.
• Arrive on time and remain available for the full scheduled modeling session.
• Maintain professional conduct and appropriate boundaries in an academic studio environment.
• Communicate promptly with the department or instructor regarding scheduling or availability.
• Follow departmental, university, and studio safety procedures.
• Perform other directly related life-model duties as assigned by the supervising faculty member.
• Must be dependable, punctual, professional, and comfortable working in a studio art classroom environment.
• Must be able to hold a variety of poses for assigned periods, with scheduled breaks as directed by the instructor.
• Scheduling is based on departmental and course needs and may vary throughout the semester.
• Applicants should understand that life drawing may involve clothed, costumed, or figure-modeling sessions as determined by the course and instructor.
Minimum Qualifications
• Students and non-students are eligible to apply.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Students must not be enrolled in a life drawing course while employed as a Life Model.
• Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
