Internship Legislative Drafting Jobs in Georgia (NOW HIRING)

Position Overview:

The ACLU of Georgia is hiringFellowsforthe2027LegislativeSession.The dates of the fellowship are October13ththroughApril 16th.Thesearefull-time, temporarypositions (40 hoursper week, $20-$25/hour depending on experience).Graduatestudents, law students, recent graduates, and lawyersarewelcome to apply. The fellowship requires in-person work, though there is some flexibility for remote tasks.

Fellows will gain valuable experience in policy analysis, legislative strategy, and community engagement focused on advancing civil liberties and rights in Georgia. They will track legislation, attend committee hearings,andassistin drafting testimony, one-pagers, and policy briefs.Applicants should have strong research, writing, and communication skills; a high attention to detail; and a demonstrated interest in civil liberties.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Familiarization with Georgia legislative process

• Training on ACLU GA document drafting (memos, talking points, testimonies)

• Researching and briefing PAD team on newly elected members, including scheduling meetings

• Anticipating General Assembly's priority issues and legislation for 2027

• Assistingwiththe development of offensive and defensive legislative strategies

• Tracking legislation and key legislative committees

• Developing andmaintainingrelationships with legislators and their administrative staff

• Executing offensive and defensive legislative advocacy campaigns tactics

• Drafting one-pagers, testimony, and other materials

• Attending and testifying at legislative hearings

• Other projects as assigned

Desired Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

• Excellent research skills, including internet and database research

• Policy analysis and legislative advocacy experienceis a plus

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Attention to detail and strong organizational/time-management skills

• Initiative and ability to see projectsthrough to completion

• Flexibility and comfort working on multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment

• Interest in event planning, grassroots organizing, and/or coalition work is a plus

• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, partners, and community members
• Commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice
• Commitment to the mission and values of the ACLU of Georgia
  

Additional Requirements:

• Requires in-person work, with some flexibility for remote tasks

• Ability to work irregular hours during busy legislative periods

• Ability to register as a lobbyist in the State of Georgia
