Duration: Summer and / or Fall 2026

Reports To: Grants Writer & Coordinator

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship designed to provide hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, and event management.

Position Overview

BGCO is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Development Intern to support our fundraising, community engagement, and strategic growth efforts. This role is ideal for an individual looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, fundraising operations, and event execution. Given the targeted 5–10 hour weekly commitment, this position focuses on high-impact administrative and analytical support that directly fuels our development team.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Planning & Logistics Support:

  • Assist with the coordination, planning, and tracking of upcoming BGCO fundraising events and community campaigns.
  • Manage guest lists, RSVP tracking, and outreach materials.

Donor & Prospect Research:

  • Conduct targeted research on prospective corporate partners, foundational grants, and more.
  • Identify alignment between prospect priorities and BGCO programs.

Meeting Briefs & Preparation:

  • Prepare concise executive briefing memos ahead of donor meetings and community stakeholder presentations.
  • Summarize key stakeholder backgrounds, past touchpoints, and potential partnership opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and write clear, concise summaries.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Google Workspace or Microsoft Office); familiarity with CRM databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge) is a plus but not required.
  • A passion for youth development and supporting the Oakland community.

What You Will Gain

  • Real-World Experience: Practical insights into nonprofit fundraising, donor cultivation, and event management strategy.
  • Portfolio Building: Tangible examples of professional research briefs and event planning documentation.
  • Mentorship: Direct collaboration with BGCO leadership and professional development feedback.
  • Flexibility: A schedule built to accommodate a busy academic or personal calendar.
