Brief Role Description

The Senior Designer - Interior leads assigned interior design projects for DCC clients from initial phases through production as a Lead Designer. He/she oversees a project team of designers, providing guidance on processes, techniques, and project development on a specific project/project phase. He/she takes creative design leadership and provides hands‑on creative concept output. The Senior Designer - Interior creates automotive product interior design concepts and accessories, and transfers chosen concepts into design prototypes in cooperation with on‑staff specialists.

Possible Tasks within this Role

Creative – (75%)

  • Furthers development of automotive projects (production/concepts) within the parameters of the individual design processes.
  • Creates new products for VW Group Brands both on a Global basis and within the US Market.
  • Develops feasible concepts and autonomous transposition into 3D; responsible for 2-D and 3-D vehicle interior design concepts.
  • Develops design ideas into virtual scale and physical full size models, respectively.
  • Collaborates with designers and specialists in other areas (Exterior, Color and Trim, Modeling).
  • Provides solutions to existing tasks.
  • Participates in production design contests with a high level of creative input.
  • Develops new concepts and product ideas for VW Group Brands based on market and competition analysis.
  • Identifies and documents goals and directions of interior design discipline.
  • Organizes relevant materials and analyses and archives them.

Supervisory – (10%)

  • Guides specific design projects from initial phases until final presentations.
  • Applies clients’ design philosophies to new product ideas.
  • Organizes and manages a group of external contract resources (Contractors, Interns).
Qualification Requirements

Required

  • Up-to-date digital technology (3D CAD software, 2D illustration software) knowledge
  • Excellent judgment of design proportions and proposals
  • Deep knowledge of American culture and automotive market
  • Leading/main design role in production and concept vehicle
  • Held lead/main interior design role in production and concept vehicles
  • Extensive knowledge of the main VW Group Brands
  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing and product planning process
  • Wide interest/knowledge of creative industry (i.e. entertainment, product design, fashion)
