Job description

Software Engineer I - Full Stack

Location: Wentzville, MO - ON SITE
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $45,000-$60,000 per year, based on relevant experience and demonstrated skills

Build Real Software. Grow Fast.

Midtown Home Improvements is a fast-growing roofing and general contracting company with more than 300 employees and five locations.

Our Technology Department builds proprietary software used throughout the company every day. We are looking for a Software Engineer I - Full Stack (Junior Full-Stack Developer) who has a solid foundation in software development and wants the opportunity to grow by working on real production applications.

This is not an internship, and you will not spend your time doing practice projects. You will contribute to software used by real employees, solve real business problems, and work directly with experienced developers who can help you grow.

This position is 100% on site in Wentzville, Missouri. Applicants must already live within reasonable commuting distance of Wentzville. This position is not remote and relocation candidates will not be considered.

What You'll Do
    • Build and improve features for internal business applications.
    • Develop frontend interfaces using Vue and Nuxt.
    • Build backend APIs and business logic using Node.js and NestJS.
    • Work with PostgreSQL, Prisma, and Redis.
    • Fix bugs, troubleshoot production issues, and improve existing applications.
    • Use Git, pull requests, testing, and code review as part of normal development.
    • Work directly with internal users to understand problems and build practical solutions.
    • Learn unfamiliar technologies when a project requires them.

You are not expected to already be an expert in every technology we use.

    Our Stack

    Our primary stack includes:

    • TypeScript / JavaScript
    • Vue 3 / Nuxt
    • Node.js / NestJS
    • Prisma
    • PostgreSQL
    • Redis
    • Tailwind CSS
    • Docker
    • Git
    • AI-assisted development tools

Experience with all of these is not required.

If you have experience with React, Angular, Express, Fastify, another SQL database, or similar technologies, those skills transfer well to our environment.

    AI-Assisted Development

AI-assisted development is a normal part of our workflow.

We use approved AI tools for research, coding, debugging, documentation, testing, and problem-solving. We expect developers to use these tools effectively while still understanding, reviewing, testing, and taking responsibility for the work they ship.

    Who We're Looking For

This role is designed for an early-career developer who can already build working software but still has plenty to learn.

You may be a good fit if you:

    • Have around 0-2 years of professional software development experience.
    • Have completed a strong coding bootcamp, computer science program, or substantial self-directed development work.
    • Have built meaningful web applications beyond basic tutorials.
    • Understand JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals.
    • Have worked with at least one modern frontend framework.
    • Have some backend and database experience.
    • Understand basic Git workflows.
    • Can debug problems instead of immediately giving up when something breaks.
    • Are comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and learning from more experienced developers.
    • Want meaningful responsibility instead of being limited to tiny isolated tasks.
    • Currently lives within reasonable commuting distance of Wentzville, MO and is able to work on-site full-time.
    What We Don't Expect

    You do not need:

    • Five years of experience.
    • Prior professional experience with our exact technology stack.
    • A computer science degree.
    • To already know every tool we use.
    • To be able to design an entire enterprise application by yourself on day one.

We would rather hire someone with strong fundamentals, curiosity, and good judgment than someone who simply knows the right buzzwords.

    Why Work at Midtown?
    • $45,000-$60,000 annual salary, based on relevant experience and demonstrated skills
    • 100% employer-paid health insurance for the employee
    • 401(k) matching
    • Paid time off
    • Paid holidays
    • Annual international company trip - Mexico, Jamaica, and more
    • Work on real software used every day throughout the company.
    • Direct access to users and decision-makers.
    • A modern development stack.
    • Significant hands-on experience across frontend, backend, databases, APIs, infrastructure, and AI-assisted development.
    • A small team where your work will actually matter.

For someone early in their development career, this role provides an opportunity to gain a large amount of practical production experience quickly.

    How to Apply

    Please send:

    • Your resume.
    • A GitHub profile, portfolio, or examples of software you have built, if available.
    • A short note telling us what you have built and why this position interests you.

Important: This is an on-site position in Wentzville, Missouri. Only applicants who already live within reasonable commuting distance of Wentzville will be considered.

Midtown Home Improvements is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
