What does an internship Java Swing developer do?

An Internship Java Swing Developer assists in the development and maintenance of desktop applications using Java Swing, a graphical user interface toolkit. Interns in this role typically work under the guidance of senior developers to design, implement, and test user interface components. They may also help in debugging software, writing documentation, and learning best practices in Java programming. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in desktop application development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship Java Swing developer?

To thrive as an Internship Java Swing Developer, you need a solid understanding of Java programming, object-oriented principles, and basic UI/UX concepts, typically gained through coursework or personal projects. Familiarity with the Java Swing framework, version control systems like Git, and exposure to integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA are commonly expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members help interns stand out. These skills ensure the delivery of functional, user-friendly applications and successful integration into software development teams.

What are some common challenges faced by internship Java Swing developers in their first projects?

Internship Java Swing Developers often encounter challenges related to understanding legacy codebases and adapting to established coding standards within their teams. LiveRamp is the leading data connectivity platform. We believe connected data has the power to change the world. Our platform powers insights and experiences centered around the needs of real people, and in ways that keep the Internet open for all. LiveRampers thrive on building together with curiosity and humility-and have a good bit of fun along the way. We're always looking for smart, kind, and creative people to grow our team and impact.
Mission: LiveRamp makes it safe and easy for businesses to use data effectively.
Get ready for the best learning experience of your life. You will receive the same orientation training as our full-time engineers, you will be matched with an individual mentor, and you will be committing production code by the end of your first week. In the course of your internship or Co-op, you will be tasked with one or more mission-critical projects and make meaningful contributions to LiveRamp's success. Also, if our previous interns are any guides, you will have a ton of fun in the process!
Internships are 12 weeks long. Should we want to extend you a full-time offer after you graduate, we ask that you would be willing to consider this at the end of your internship.
Co-ops range between 12-24 weeks long. Should we want to extend you a full-time offer after you graduate, we ask that you would be willing to consider this at the end of your Co-op.

You will:

  • Contribute deeply to our real production systems - billions of daily requests, 80+ PBs of data, millions of anonymous people records, and powerful web applications to make it all accessible and intuitive.

  • Learn about the business and engineering practices at LiveRamp.

  • Prove yourself and earn the responsibilities of a full-time engineer.

About you:

  • Possess strong coding skills that you are ready to turn into industry-ready coding skills

  • Pursuing or completed a degree in Computer Science or other STEM degrees

  • Excited to learn new languages and technologies

  • Willing to dive in and learn by doing

  • Ready to work with others to solve hard problems

  • Possess a startup personality: smart, ethical, friendly, hard-working and proactive

  • Excited to work with products that have close interactions with customers

Bonus Points (varies by team, but here are a few):

  • Knowledge of Java, Core Java, Big Data, such as Hadoop and Spark

  • Knowledge of distributed SQL database management systems, such as SingleStore

  • Experience with GCP or another cloud provider (AWS, Azure, ...)

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Cadence, Scala

  • Contributions to open-source projects

  • Projects involving Workflow Orchestration

  • Experience with Agile software development

  • Experience developing user interfaces with the React framework

  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or Node.js

  • Experience with TypeScript and Express.js

The approximate hourly compensation range is $31.00 to $49.00. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, geography, as well as internal equity among our team.
