This internship will last 10-12 weeks and is flexible on start date. We are considering candidates graduating between December 2026 and August 2027, or recent graduates. This position requires in-person presence in our Chicago office located in River West, adjacent to the Merchandise Mart and convenient to public transportation.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to participate in a summer program focused on designing and building a Custom Reporting Framework within our Backoffice system.
This project centers on developing a web-based interface that enables non-technical stakeholders to generate flexible financial statements without requiring custom engineering support. The goal is to provide a scalable, in-house reporting solution that improves usability, efficiency, and long-term maintainability.
We will provide the business context and technical guidance needed to succeed, while giving you meaningful ownership over a production-facing system used by Accounting and Settlement teams.
What You'll Do
  • Design and build a web-based UI for generating custom financial reports
  • Enable users to pull from flexible data sources, including trades, positions, pricing, and fees
  • Implement filtering, sorting, grouping, and transformation capabilities within reports
  • Allow users to save report configurations for future use, with potential scheduling capabilities
  • Partner directly with Accounting and Settlement stakeholders to gather requirements and validate outputs
  • Deliver a production-ready component integrated into our Backoffice infrastructure
  • Produce clear technical and user documentation and present your results at the end of the internship
Goals
  • Deliver a valuable internal tool used by Backoffice stakeholders
  • Reduce the burden of ad hoc report generation on the development team
  • Provide a controlled, customizable in-house reporting solution
  • Build strong habits around stakeholder collaboration, iterative development, and documentation
  • Gain exposure to financial systems, reporting workflows, and operational infrastructure in a trading environment
Qualifications
  • Progress toward a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or related field (Junior standing or higher preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in an existing codebase
  • Familiarity with web fundamentals (HTTP methods, client-server architecture, HTML/CSS)
  • At least 1 year of experience using C# and/or Java
  • Exposure to TypeScript and React is beneficial
  • Curiosity, self-motivation, and strong communication skills-especially when working with non-technical stakeholders
  • Interest in financial markets is helpful, but not required
The approximate hourly rate for this position in Chicago, IL is $25/hr. This is a temporary role and is not eligible for employee benefits.
