Thank you for your interest in employment with Torch Technologies. We are a 100% employee-owned, Certified Great Place To Work and named Best Places to Work in Huntsville/Madison County, headquartered in Huntsville, AL. Our team provides superior research, development, and engineering services to the Federal Government and Department of War. As one of the nation's top 100 defense companies, the services we provide directly support the men and women who serve our country. Our corporate mission sums up the pride our employee-owners take in the work we do: "Lighting the Pathway of Freedom". And, as a Certified Evergreen ESOP, we have made the commitment to grow and sustain our company for the next 100 years! Come grow with us!

Torch Technologies is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer to join our team in support of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Modeling & Simulation (M&S) System Integration team. Working under the guidance of senior software and systems engineers, you will help develop and implement practical, user-focused automation solutions that make our multi-disciplinary teams more efficient and better connected.

In this complementary role, you will assist in developing, testing, and maintaining low-code applications, business workflows, and collaboration environments across platforms like the Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, and the Atlassian Suite. You will be hands-on in building the tools that manage critical operational data-such as asset allocation, task tracking, travel tracking, and personnel workflows. Furthermore, you will actively leverage emerging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate your learning, optimize code, and support the team's delivery timeline.

As a Software Engineer I, your duties will include, but are not limited to

  • Solution Development: Assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of software solutions, scripts, and workflows using Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint Online, ServiceNow, Jira, and Confluence.

  • Workflow Automation: Build and configure automated processes for data extraction, reporting, and task tracking to reduce manual effort across business operations.

  • User Interface Design: Develop intuitive front-ends and forms based on UI mockups and guidance provided by senior team members.

  • Systems Integration: Support the integration of software tools by executing technical tasks and building out configurations defined by the Systems Engineering team and Senior Software Engineers.

  • Site & Environment Maintenance: Update and maintain functional SharePoint sites and Confluence spaces. Implement content structures, libraries, lists, and permission schemes as directed.

  • Platform Monitoring: Perform routine checks on automation tools and collaboration solutions for performance, reliability, and data quality, reporting issues to senior team members for troubleshooting.

  • Compliance & Security: Follow established DoD/MDA security protocols to ensure automated processes and collaboration environments maintain data accuracy and secure access control.

  • AI-Assisted Development: Utilize AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Gemini) to assist with code generation, basic debugging, and formatting documentation.

  • Technical Documentation: Draft clear, maintainable code comments, configuration notes, and user guides to support team documentation efforts.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Actively participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and technical interchange meetings to report progress and learn from cross-functional teams.

Job Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 0+ years of applicable software engineering, business process automation, or software development experience (relevant internships, co-ops, or academic project experience will be considered).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance

  • Foundational experience or strong familiarity with building workflows, forms, or automation tools (experience with Microsoft Power Platform, Jira, Confluence, or SharePoint is highly preferred).

  • Solid understanding of fundamental software development principles, databases, basic APIs, and maintainable coding practices.

  • Willingness to adopt and use AI-powered development tools (such as GitHub Copilot or Gemini) to support daily software development tasks.

  • Familiarity with Agile development environments and a desire to grow technical skills within a collaborative setting.

  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on executing tasks accurately and reliably.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to ask clarifying questions and take direction from senior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with front-end web development languages and frameworks (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

  • Exposure to or academic experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
