What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Interior Design Rendering Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Interior Design Rendering Intern, you typically need a foundational understanding of interior design principles and proficiency in visual communication, often supported by coursework or a degree in interior design or a related field. Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and rendering tools like V-Ray or Lumion is essential. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective teamwork and communication skills help interns excel in collaborative studio environments. These abilities ensure accurate, compelling visual presentations that support project development and client engagement.

What types of projects and responsibilities can an intern expect when focusing on interior design rendering?

As an intern specializing in interior design rendering, you will typically assist design teams by creating 3D visualizations, digital models, and presentation boards for client proposals and ongoing projects. Your daily tasks may include updating material libraries, rendering design concepts using software like SketchUp, Revit, or 3ds Max, and collaborating with designers to refine visuals based on client feedback. This hands-on experience will help you understand the design process, improve your technical skills, and build a professional portfolio. Additionally, you may have opportunities to participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas, further preparing you for a career in interior design.

What is an Internship in Interior Design Rendering?

An Internship in Interior Design Rendering is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain practical experience in creating visual representations of interior spaces. Interns typically use specialized software to produce 2D and 3D renderings under the supervision of professional designers. This role helps interns develop technical skills, understand industry standards, and build a professional portfolio. The internship provides valuable exposure to real-world projects and can be a stepping stone to a full-time career in interior design or architectural visualization.

We specialize in creating thoughtful, refined design across interiors, architecture, furniture, lighting, textiles, and branding for the world's leading luxury hospitality, retail, and residential clients. Storytelling is the heartbeat of our work. We believe every object and environment tells a story and our product design practice plays a central role in shaping these narratives through material exploration, sculptural form, and emotional function.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

As an Intermediate Product Designer, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of furniture and product collections from concept through production, while mentoring junior team members and collaborating across disciplines.

  • Oversee the creation and quality of detailed technical drawings for prototypes and production.
  • Partner closely with the product design team, interior teams, project management, and creative directors to ensure design vision is realized in final products.
  • Drive the development of bespoke furniture for interior projects and product collaborations with esteemed product brands.
  • Conduct trend analysis, material exploration, and narrative development to inform design direction.
  • Coordinate prototyping and fabrication, including reviewing samples, attending factory visits, and participating in international design reviews and trade fairs.
  • Explore and apply emerging design technologies, including AI-driven tools, to enhance and accelerate the creative process.
  • Foster a collaborative, iterative studio environment that values experimentation, craft, and open exchange of ideas.
  • Uphold and advance Yabu Pushelberg's design principles, ensuring excellence and consistency across all projects.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of practical experience in industrial or furniture design (internships included).

  • Experience in luxury hospitality, residential, or retail design environments is an asset.
  • Strong visualization and sketching skills, confident in communicating ideas through drawing and form.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Blender or Rhino, plus rendering tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) with excellent graphic presentation skills.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods, materials, and production processes, hands-on fabrication experience a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to balance multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to different design languages, brands, and typologies.
  • A collaborative spirit and openness to feedback, iteration, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • A global point of view and interest in cultural and material storytelling.

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to contribute to design at the highest level within a globally respected studio.
  • A collaborative, concept-driven studio culture that values experimentation and craft.
  • Exposure to projects and clients that span continents and categories.
  • Creative mentorship from industry-leading design directors.
