Job description
KCI is looking for a motivated Scientist in Training to join our Water Resources team in Newark, DE. Typical work assignments include storm drain inventory and inspection, wet weather sampling, stream monitoring, illicit discharge detection and elimination, and GIS analysis. Most assignments are in support of stormwater permitting requirements. The Scientist in Training will receive training and hands-on experience working in teams of two under the supervision of other experienced scientists. A successful candidate will have good organizational skills, an ability to work in the field for a large majority of the work week in all weather conditions, a desire to learn and grow strong technical skills, and a willingness to be part of a 14-person team of scientists that work together towards achieving a single goal of meeting our client’s needs.

- Perform in-field stormwater infrastructure data collection throughout the state of Delaware and Eastern MD.
- Develop stormwater impact summaries for special investigations related to deficiencies in stormwater infrastructure.
- Assist in other scientific in-field data collection activities such as stream monitoring, wet weather monitoring, stormwater outfall screening.
- Perform basic GIS Analysis on collected stormwater infrastructure data.

Education and/or Skills Required:
- 0-2 Years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, or related field.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
- Previous internships or work experience in this industry.
- Familiarity with GIS software
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to maintain required certifications.
