Job description

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Maintains Security for the hospital and all hospital owned property adjacent to the main facility.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: NO

Minimum Education: High School/GED Required

Degree: General

License/Certification Required:

- Valid Tennessee Driver's License

- Valid State of TN Armed Security Guard/ Officer License OR valid P.O.S.T certification if current or previous full-time Law Enforcement Officer

- Qualified to obtain Special Deputy Bond through the Knox County Sheriff's office

- Must obtain Basic Certification for the Healthcare Security Officer through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), as well as, certification in Incident Command (IS 100 & 200) and National Preparedness (IS 800) through NIMS (National Incident Management System) within one year of employment.

Minimum Work Experience: 1 year as security or law enforcement officer is preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License
  • Excellent oral and written communication, mediation and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, work with minimal supervision, takes initiative and accepts responsibility.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and Outlook.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures the security and safety of all patients, visitors, staff, and property by patrolling assigned interior and exterior areas of the hospital and maintains control and order in all areas of the hospital, as indicated by following policies and procedures
  • Prepares daily shift report, which includes thorough documentation of patrolling activity, locking/unlocking of doors, and calls for service details.
  • Promptly answers calls for service and responds appropriately and professionally according the each unique situation.
  • Admits authorized personnel on request to closed areas and documents the request by noting location, requestor, and authorizing person.
  • Thoroughly investigates irregularities and criminal violations in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and Tennessee Law.
  • Provides escorts to visitors and staff upon request to ensure their safe passage on the campus.
  • Responds to any and all emergency code calls in a prompt and professional manner and follows the policy of the particular code when the code is activated, and responds to heliport and provides assistance for arrival and departure of helicopter.
  • Prepares event/incident reports in accordance with departmental policy and performs arrest in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
  • Properly logs lost and found property and releases property following proper procedure.
  • Displays a clean and professional appearance at all times, in accordance with Children's Hospital Dress Code and Appearance on the Job Policy and departmental standards, as well as a high level of service excellence in all interactions in accordance with Policy.
  • Testifies in court, as required, to knowledge of or action taken regarding matters of interest to the courts.
  • Assists outside law enforcement agencies having official business within the hospital by giving directions, locations and information while abiding by hospital and HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Maintains Hospital owned property to insure it remains in good working order and is safeguarded from loss, theft or damage.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably and willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Heavy lifting, pushing and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
