Internship In Photography information

What is an internship in photography?

An internship in photography is a temporary position that allows individuals, often students or recent graduates, to gain hands-on experience in the field of photography. Interns typically assist professional photographers with shoots, editing, equipment management, and administrative tasks. The goal is to develop practical skills, build a professional portfolio, and understand the day-to-day operations of a photography business or studio. These internships can take place in various settings, such as studios, media companies, or with independent photographers, and may be paid or unpaid.

What types of projects or assignments can I expect to work on during a photography internship?

As a photography intern, you'll typically assist with a variety of projects such as studio shoots, on-location photography, post-processing, and image organization. You may help set up equipment, manage lighting, and support photographers during client sessions or editorial shoots. Many internships also involve administrative tasks like cataloging images or updating portfolios. This hands-on experience is designed to help you build technical skills, gain industry insights, and start developing your own professional portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern in photography, and why are they important?

To thrive as an intern in photography, you generally need a foundational understanding of photography principles, camera operation, and basic image editing, often supported by coursework or a portfolio. Familiarity with digital cameras, Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and Lightroom), and photo management systems is typically expected. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication skills help interns stand out when collaborating with clients and team members. These skills and qualities are essential for producing high-quality images, adapting to various assignments, and contributing positively to professional photography projects.

While internships emphasize education, assistant roles are more about practical support in a professional setting.

How can I become an internship in photography with no experience?

To secure a photography internship with no experience, focus on building a portfolio of your work, learn basic photography skills and editing software, and seek opportunities at local studios, community centers, or online platforms that offer beginner internships. Demonstrating enthusiasm and a willingness to learn can increase your chances of being accepted.

What does a photography internship do?

A photography internship provides hands-on experience in photography, including assisting with shoots, editing images, and learning about camera equipment and lighting. Interns often develop skills in photo composition, post-processing software, and industry workflows while supporting professional photographers or studios.

Victory Lap Social Media & Events Fall Intern - Sports & Hospitality

LV Collective

Columbus, OH โ€ข On-site

$15/hr

Internship

Re-posted 27 days ago

Job description

Where are you on game day-and what are you posting about it?

Are you the one who's already thinking about the angle, the clip, and the caption while everyone else is just watching? The one rallying the group, capturing the energy, and turning moments into something people actually want to share?

At LV Collective, we're building some of the most high-energy hospitality brands in the country-and social media is at the center of it. As part of our team supporting Victory Lap and Side Piece Pies at our Ohio State location, you won't just post content-you'll create it in real time, turning game days, nights out, and unforgettable moments into buzz that drives real engagement and real traffic.

This role lives at the intersection of content and experience. You'll be hands-on with capturing the action, creating scroll-stopping posts, and helping bring events to life both online and on the ground. From Buckeye football Saturdays to March Madness and beyond, you'll tap into the moments that matter and translate them into content that hits.

You don't just consume content-you study it. You know what works, what flops, and why. You're constantly thinking about hooks, trends, and how to stand out. And just as importantly, you're a natural connector-someone who knows where the energy is, how to bring people together, and how to turn a good time into something bigger.

If you love content creation, thrive in fast-paced environments, and know how to build excitement both behind the camera and in front of it, you'll fit right in.
