Internship In Photography information

What is an internship in photography?

An internship in photography is a temporary position that allows individuals, often students or recent graduates, to gain hands-on experience in the field of photography. Interns typically assist professional photographers with shoots, editing, equipment management, and administrative tasks. The goal is to develop practical skills, build a professional portfolio, and understand the day-to-day operations of a photography business or studio. These internships can take place in various settings, such as studios, media companies, or with independent photographers, and may be paid or unpaid.

What types of projects or assignments can I expect to work on during a photography internship?

As a photography intern, you'll typically assist with a variety of projects such as studio shoots, on-location photography, post-processing, and image organization. You may help set up equipment, manage lighting, and support photographers during client sessions or editorial shoots. Many internships also involve administrative tasks like cataloging images or updating portfolios. This hands-on experience is designed to help you build technical skills, gain industry insights, and start developing your own professional portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern in photography, and why are they important?

To thrive as an intern in photography, you generally need a foundational understanding of photography principles, camera operation, and basic image editing, often supported by coursework or a portfolio. Familiarity with digital cameras, Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and Lightroom), and photo management systems is typically expected. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication skills help interns stand out when collaborating with clients and team members. These skills and qualities are essential for producing high-quality images, adapting to various assignments, and contributing positively to professional photography projects.

While internships emphasize education, assistant roles are more about practical support in a professional setting.

How can I become an internship in photography with no experience?

To secure a photography internship with no experience, focus on building a portfolio of your work, learn basic photography skills and editing software, and seek opportunities at local studios, community centers, or online platforms that offer beginner internships. Demonstrating enthusiasm and a willingness to learn can increase your chances of being accepted.

What does a photography internship do?

A photography internship provides hands-on experience in photography, including assisting with shoots, editing images, and learning about camera equipment and lighting. Interns often develop skills in photo composition, post-processing software, and industry workflows while supporting professional photographers or studios.

Job description

#WeAreParamount on a mission to unleash the power of content... you in?
We've got the brands, we've got the stars, we've got the power to achieve our mission to entertain the planet - now all we're missing is... YOU! Becoming a part of Paramount means joining a team of passionate people who not only recognize the power of content but also enjoy a touch of fun and uniqueness. Together, we co-create moments that matter - both for our audiences and our employees - and aim to leave a positive mark on culture.

Entertainment Tonight is looking for a sharp, pop-culture-obsessed Production Assistant to join our news desk. This is an entry-level role built for someone who's ready to work hard, learn fast, and grow inside the #1 entertainment news brand in the world.

Overview:
The core of this role is news desk support. Most days, that means building folders - ingesting footage, pulling assets, and organizing everything a producer needs to write a piece. But the best PAs bring editorial instincts to that work. If you're deep in a folder on a breaking story and you spot a vault clip that just became gold, we need you to recognize it and flag it. That awareness is what separates a good PA from a great one.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
You'll be assigned to the ET news desk, where you'll be the link between raw footage and finished stories.
  • Media management - ingest shoot footage, log and label assets, and build organized folders that segment producers can write directly from
  • Transcription - turn celebrity interviews and field shoots into accurate, usable transcripts on deadline
  • Asset coordination - pull b-roll, photos, social clips, and archival material; track rights and credits
  • Producer support - research, fact checks, and content prep across broadcast, digital, and social
  • Rundown meeting prep - pull and assemble daily photo docs with pap and social images to support editorial planning
  • Field and studio assistance - crew support, errands, and on-the-ground help when shoots need an extra set of hands
  • Cross-department coverage - pitch in where the show needs you
Qualifications:
  • You live and breathe pop culture - you can name every famous face in a crowded shot
  • You're fast, accurate, and organized under pressure
  • You communicate clearly and work well with a team
  • You have sharp editorial instincts - you know the difference between a great sound bite and a throwaway line
  • Degree or internship in TV, film, or a related field is a plus, not a requirement
  • Must pass a short celebrity knowledge quiz
