The Innovation Team is housed within the Business Innovation & Technology department. Our goal is to transform the way the government operates by supporting and leading business process and technology improvements.
About the Fellowship Program:
The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship is a 1-2-year program that equips aspiring innovators with the skills to transform government services through new technologies and solutions. It is a full-time role with a salary and limited medical benefits that can act as a launch pad for a career in civic innovation and technology. About the Position:
Are you passionate about improving how government works? Do you thrive on connecting people, ideas, and technology to make a difference? Join Jefferson County's Innovation Team as our Innovation Program Coordinator Fellow.
In this role, you'll coordinate our Innovation Fellowship and Internship Programs, including recruitment, onboarding, project matching, and tracking results. You'll also support countywide innovation initiatives like the Technology Showcase, Innovation Awards, communications, and updates to our web presence-gaining broad exposure to innovation, culture building, and emerging technology.
Professional Development
The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship program is designed to provide talented individuals with an opportunity to gain practical and diverse real-world experience in government innovation. Fellows will learn about the inner workings of county government and make a difference in the community through meaningful projects. Fellows will interact with senior leaders, attend high level meetings, and will be exposed to the responsibilities and challenges of multiple departments.
Additionally, Fellows can expect:
  • a stipend for job-related training, conferences, or certifications

  • mentorship and coaching

  • expert led educational discussions

  • training on process and technology improvement tools and techniques

  • opportunities to interact with senior leaders and attend high-level meetings

SCHEDULE:
This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday) however, with approval from supervisor, employees are allowed to work a 5-day work week if preferred.
This limited position is hybrid, with remote work and in-office work as determined by business need.
COMPENSATION:
Hiring Range: $29-$33 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.
LIMITED BENEFITS:
The employment status is Limited (Fixed-Term) with an anticipated assignment end date after one year and is eligible for personal medical coverage following the month after you start.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Specifically, the Innovation Program Coordinator should expect to:
  • Coordinate Fellowship and Internship Programming.

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Fellowship and Internship Programs, such as recruitment, professional development programming, and intern support and leadership

  • Track project progress, support participant success, and organize events and learning opportunities.

  • Identity and scope project opportunities for future interns in collaboration with other employees.

  • Collaborate with educational institutions and external partners to develop and administer internship and fellowship pipelines, including both internally hosted internships and externally sponsored student projects.Lead select innovation initiatives and projects.

  • Contribute to special projects such as the Technology Showcase,
    Innovation Awards, and other events or initiatives.

  • Draft content and coordinate updates for innovation-related communications and web presence.

  • Collaborate with the Innovation Program Manager and team members to advance the county's innovation goals.

Approximate Time Allocation
• Fellowship & Internship Programming - 35-45%
• Innovation Initiatives & Events - 40-50%
• Other Team Support - 10-20%

About You
We're looking for an organized problem-solver to jump in and contribute to our Innovation team initiatives.
Generally, we're looking for candidates with the following experiences, skills, and/or interests:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • Interest in the intersection of technology and how organizations deliver high-quality services.

  • Experience with event coordination or managing projects.

  • Interest and experience recruiting and coaching staff or volunteers.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
*Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Experience coaching and/or managing volunteers or junior staff

  • Experience recruiting staff or volunteers

  • Experience analyzing business processes, programs, and policies, and creating recommendations for improvement

  • At least 1 year of managing multiple projects (i.e., developing project schedules, tracking progress, navigating obstacles)

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a complex organization

  • A valid Colorado driver's license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer.
