Summary:
The Manager, Pharmacy Retail serves as the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) and is responsible for the overall leadership, clinical, operational, regulatory, and financial performance of the designated community pharmacy site(s). This position will lead daily pharmacy operations onsite at Rush Copley Medical Center community pharmacy while fostering a culture of exceptional patient care, safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
The Rush Copley Manager, Pharmacy Retail develops and leads pharmacy staff, ensures compliance with all federal, state, accreditation, and organizational requirements. The Manager partners with health system leaders to expand community pharmacy services that improve medication access, patient outcomes, and overall patient experience. The leader is accountable for achieving quality, operational, financial, and patient satisfaction goals while maintaining full compliance with Illinois pharmacy regulations. The Manager exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:
  • Pharmacy licensed or license-eligible in the State of Illinois.
  • Successful completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent education and training.
  • Post Graduate Year One Pharmacy Residency and one year of experience OR three years of health system pharmacy experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Active participant in pharmacy professional or peer organizations.
  • Must be able to work from 1430 to 0100 hours for seven consecutive days.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule. Dependable attendance and job performance.
  • Use of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Professional, Microsoft Visio, other computer systems software, copiers, fax machines and other office equipment as necessary.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
  • Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Board Certification.
Physical Demands:
  • May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) in accordance with Illinois Board of Pharmacy requirements and maintains responsibility for regulatory compliance and safe pharmacy operations.
  • Oversees all day-to-day community pharmacy operations including prescription dispensing, patient counseling, inventory management, controlled substance oversight, and workflow optimization.
  • Leads, develops, coaches, and evaluates pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, and support staff to promote professional growth and high-quality performance.
  • Establishes staffing plans and schedules to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered operations.
  • Promotes a culture of patient safety, quality, accountability, and exceptional customer service.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state pharmacy laws, DEA regulations, USP standards, accreditation requirements, organizational policies, and third-party payer requirements.
  • Maintains responsibility for all pharmacy records, security, controlled substance accountability, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves pharmacy workflows that enhance efficiency, patient experience, and medication safety.
  • Monitors key performance indicators including prescription volume, turnaround time, patient satisfaction, inventory performance, financial results, quality metrics, and clinical service utilization.
  • Identifies operational improvement opportunities using data-driven decision making and Lean process improvement principles.
  • Partners with physicians, nurses, ambulatory clinics, care management teams, and health system leaders to improve transitions of care and medication access.
  • Supports and expands contemporary community pharmacy services including immunizations, medication therapy management, medication synchronization, specialty pharmacy coordination, home delivery, Meds-to-Beds, adherence programs, and other patient care initiatives.
  • Oversees inventory management including purchasing, recalls, expired medications, controlled substance reconciliation, and diversion prevention.
  • Manages departmental budgets and financial performance through labor management, inventory optimization, expense control, and revenue growth in partnership with the System Pharmacy Director.
  • Participates in strategic planning and implementation of new pharmacy services, technology enhancements, and operational initiatives.
  • Investigates medication events, patient complaints, operational issues, and regulatory concerns while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Serves as the pharmacy's primary regulatory contact during inspections and audits.
  • Maintains competency in pharmacy practice and serves as a practicing pharmacist when needed to support patient care and operational needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
