What you'll be doing

As a Quantum Machine Learning Research Scientist, you will play a key individual contributor role within CIBC's Advanced Analytics and AI team, driving the development and application of quantum computing capabilities across the bank. You will lead applied research initiatives focused on designing, executing, and evaluating quantum algorithms, working closely with researchers, engineers, and business stakeholders to explore real-world use cases in areas such as fraud, cybersecurity, and optimization. You will contribute to advancing quantum research while translating complex concepts into practical insights, helping shape how emerging technologies can be leveraged within a banking environment. This role requires a strong balance of technical depth, hands-on experimentation, and the ability to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate knowledge and experience in. quantum computing. You bring strong expertise in quantum computing concepts, algorithms, and programming frameworks, with hands-on experience in designing and executing experiments. You have experience translating theoretical research into practical experimentation or real-world applications, ideally within industry or applied research settings. You are proficient in programming and comfortable working with tools and frameworks such as Python, Qiskit, Cirq, Ocean, or Q#, and can collaborate effectively with engineering teams to execute experiments. You understand machine learning concepts and have a working knowledge of machine learning principles and can articulate how they intersect with quantum computing.
  • You have a PhD in. physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field, with a focus on quantum computing or closely related disciplines.
