Description

The Biology Department at Salem State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in biomedical sciences to begin September 2027.

We seek a colleague who encourages student learning through innovative pedagogy who has expertise in anatomy and physiology, pathology, immunology, or related field. The successful candidate will have primary teaching responsibility in Anatomy and Physiology I and II and the opportunity to teach upper-level electives in our catalog (e.g. Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, General Pathology, Endocrinology, Immunology) and/or introductory biology courses for nonmajors. We seek a colleague interested in taking an active role in the Pre-Health Advising Committee and providing guidance to students pursuing careers in medical sciences. The ideal candidate will have plans for engaging undergraduate students in course-based and/or mentored research opportunities.

We seek a collaborative colleague who cares deeply about supporting students and preparing future scientists and STEM professionals. Biology faculty are actively involved in departmental initiatives related to curriculum and assessment, student career preparation and professional development, and campus-wide committees. Biology faculty advise students in general biology and in specialized options focused on Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Marine Biology and Aquaculture, and Environmental Biology. In addition, the department teaches scientific reasoning courses for the General Education program and lab sciences support courses for allied health and sports and movement sciences departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract . Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours (approximately 4 lecture or lab sections) per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

  • PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline (e.g., biomedical sciences, physiology) or M.D.
  • Experience teaching at the college/university level or in clinical settings
  • Demonstrated interest to involve undergraduates in research both inside and outside the classroom using shared research spaces in the department
  • Experience with engaging and inclusive pedagogies in lectures, lab, and/or online modalities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring practices that resonate with and supports the success of undergraduates from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience teaching both introductory and upper-level courses
  • A desire to take an active role in supporting and advising students in Pre-Health pathways and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology concentration
