Job description

Contractor Duties Summary

The Home Study Writer is responsible for completing foster and/or adoptive home studies for recommending certification for prospective foster and/or adoption families. The contractor writes home studies, assesses the strengths and needs of the applicants and interacts/networks with various community contacts-the court system, Pathways and Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) staff. The contractor may also be responsible for training classes or assist with the training classes for foster and/or adoptive families. This is a contract opportunity and contractors are not employees of Pathways.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure Pathways' mission, philosophy, and values is supported, taught, and articulated in the delivery of all child placing agency services.
  • Successfully work within the current parameters of Pathways - State Adoptions Services Contract with DFPS and Private Adoptions Program.
  • Maintain compliance with DFPS standards and Pathways Policies and Procedures.
  • Screen and assess adoptive families, as part of the home study interview.
  • Provide ongoing support to foster families who are waiting for placement.
  • Develop professional relationships with other peers in the field, such as DFPS, private agencies, and supporting agencies.
  • Complete interviews and write home studies in a timely manner.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human services field with at least one year of experience in human services field.
  • Experience conducting home studies required.
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish, strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, &Abilities

  • Knowledge of child development, behavior and discipline, family systems and dynamics, and regulations and laws applicable to private youth agencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational ability, ability to assess needs and develop appropriate home studies.

Additional Requirements

  • Work weekend and evening hours when necessary.
  • Adhere to all current federal and state laws, as well as Pathways Policies and Procedures, regarding the safeguard of confidential healthcare information and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Proof of Liability Insurance.
  • Proof of valid Texas Driver's License (Type C).
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Cleared criminal background check and signed statement regarding felony indictments/convictions.
  • Cleared TB test results (current within 12 months prior to employment).
  • Cleared pre-employment drug test.
  • Working cellular telephone.
