Job description

A Commitment to Education

The Women’s Home believes that overcoming Houston’s homeless and mental health care crisis requires a commitment to educating future mental health professionals. As a part of this commitment, The Home is proud to be a training site for psychiatric residents from Baylor College of Medicine, as well as graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Houston campuses, the University of Texas School of Nursing, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Texas Southern University.

Our internship program provides real-world, hands-on mental health training to some of the best and brightest students in the Houston area. Interns are fully integrated into our programs and work side by side with our experienced staff, learning important professional skills while serving some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Opportunities include co-facilitating groups, individual therapy, and performing a number of different types of clinical assessments. Interns will participate in treatment planning and be supervised by licensed and experienced staff. The preponderance of hours at The Women’s Home will be in direct practice, while also gaining important experience and training in clinical documentation, professional practice, ethics and working with a multi-disciplinary team.

During practicum, interns will have the opportunity to learn more about addiction and recovery, mental health, and trauma, particularly as it relates to women, and be trained in evidence-based practices to treat clients with these issues.
