Description

  • Benefits--Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.

SALARY RANGE: $132,843 - $158,621
Responsibilities
  1. Plan, coordinate, organize and administer the school's athletic program.
  2. Fulfill educational expectations for male and female athletes by providing a variety of individual and team sports, including adapted sports activities.
  3. Assist in the development of rules and regulations, and physical and academic eligibility requirements for the school athletic program and at the district level.
  4. Plan and develop the school's athletic budget with input from staff, allocate and adjust fiscal material resources, assure timely completion of reports and contract/pay submittals, and record maintenance for all school programs.
  5. Lead hiring of new coaches involving screening, selection, orientation, training, assignment, and reassignment of school staff and coaches.
  6. Encourage and promote high standards of conduct, sportsmanship, and scholastic achievement for students participating in athletic program activities.
  7. Participate in the development, ongoing improvement, and implementation of the district, school curricular program, activities, and athletic programs.
  8. Coordinate the school's extracurricular program and organize athletics contests/games/tournaments as scheduled.
  9. Oversee technical applications such as athletics registration, officials scheduling, and website maintenance for all school athletics teams.
  10. Oversee evaluation of coaches within SPS evaluation tool and guidelines.
  11. Partner in evaluation of school athletics personnel.
  12. Promote events and participate in fundraising supports for teams and activities to provide maximum support for all programs, including development of an athletic/activities booster club that supports all.
  13. Lead and be responsible for college signing day/commitment day.
  14. Lead, direct and encourage coaches and advisors to continue to grow their skills set through organized professional development, in partnership with the SPS Director of Athletics.
  15. Ensure all coaches and activity leaders complete both WIAA and District-required training.
  16. Successfully establish and grow meaningful relationships and communication with coaches, students, parents, outside athletic directors, and official organizations such as the WIAA.
  17. Ensure that the school athletic program complies with GSL, WIAA, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, other applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and Department of Education policies and regulations.
  18. Interpret and implement board policies and administrative regulations related to athletic and activities program.
  19. Work collaboratively with other administrators, coaches, and athletic directors - advise area directors, SPS Director of Athletics, and other appropriate district supervisors of progress, problems, and other information regarding the school's program.
  20. Establish a school climate which promotes equal opportunities for students, good conduct, and positive attitudes and values, and accept responsibility for the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students.
  21. Assist in overseeing school leadership and staff connected to clubs and activities.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor or Master's degree in related field with at least 5 years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of socially just practices and strategies which enhance student achievement and experiences.
  3. Demonstrated ability in utilizing culturally responsive strategies to work effectively with administrators, teachers, and district leadership to improve programming.
  4. Demonstrated ability to foster an environment that focuses on quality results while motivating, developing, and supporting a diverse coaching staff, encouraging continuous improvement, and working effectively as a member of a diverse team.
  5. Demonstrated success in exercising good judgment, insight, self-awareness, integrity, and cultural responsiveness when interacting with diverse employee groups.
  6. Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, supervision, and evaluation of extracurricular staff, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with building leaders and coaches to improve student achievement.
  7. Demonstrated success in developing effective working relationships, success dealing with people, resolving conflicts, motivating others, and designing activities to assist others in meeting organizational goals.
  8. Demonstrated success in exhibiting a sense of vision and being able to project that vision in a variety of situations.
  9. Demonstrated understanding of the change process and is relationship to current trends in current high school education and athletic programs.
  10. Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, scheduling, and allocating resources, reaching logical conclusions and making high-quality decisions using appropriate decision-making processes, and accepting responsibility for actions and consequences.
  11. Demonstrated effectiveness in using technology to enhance instruction and to manage building functions.
  12. Demonstrated success in setting high performance standards for self and others, performing well under pressure, and thinking effectively during oral exchange, while maintaining ethical and organizational norms in job-related activities.

  1. Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.
  3. Benefits Highlights:

    • Benefit eligible Spokane Public Schools employees and their dependent family members have access to free, confidential counseling, consultation and referral services through the Employee Assistance Program.
    • School District Employees participate in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) public pension plan. Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
      • Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b) retirement plan through the District's plan manager, OMNI.
