Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Information Services Team as a Software Engineer Intern in Pullman, Washington. Ideal candidates for this position are organized, adaptable and eager to solve problems. We're seeking motivated students, who can work part-time during the academic year and full-time during the summer.

A typical day as a Software Engineer Intern might include:

  • Be a champion for appropriate AI usage at SEL-listen, educate, answer support questions, help identify learning sources.

  • Document best practices that can be shared with others.

  • Explore AI and data integration with M365 Copilot, Fabric, Work IQ, Copilot Studio, Foundry, Azure, and local services.

  • Experiment and test new Microsoft Frontier features, tools, and agents, helping us understand capabilities.

  • Learn how to configure and deploy the various types of M365 agents.

  • Collaborate with internal customers and vendors to understand requirements for MCP servers.

  • Understand security requirements around AI tools, MCP servers, and AI harnesses.

  • Explore AI integration with Microsoft Power Platform.

  • Research regulatory requirements around the use and deployment of AI tools.

  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

  • Understand. Create. Simplify.

  • Other duties as assigned.

This job might be for you if:

  • Current student pursuing a degree in MIS, computer science, information systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, or a related field

  • Strong communicator with the ability to explain technical concepts to all audiences

  • Demonstrated interest in AI, automation, and emerging technologies

  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, JavaScript, Python, or similar

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn new technologies

It is a plus if you have:

  • Experience with coursework, personal projects, labs, or hackathons involving AI, data analysis, or automation

  • Experience teaching or speaking in front of groups on technical topics

Pay Range Data - $24.25 - $33.00 hourly
