General Description
Performs complex technical and analytical tasks; supports the administration, maintenance, and enhancement of the city's Geographic Information System under the supervision of the GIS Manager.
Essential Functions
This position assists in coordinating GIS data management activities, assists with application development and system support, and provides technical GIS services to city staff. The GIS Coordinator works collaboratively across all departments to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and effective use of spatial data in support of operations, planning, and decision-making.
  • Assists in Maintaining, updating, and ensuring the integrity of enterprise GIS databases, layers, and metadata in accordance with established standards.
  • Coordinates GIS data collection, updates, editing, extraction, validation, and integration from internal departments, consultants, and external agencies.
  • Assists in developing and implementing GIS data standards, workflows, and quality control procedures.
  • Conducts spatial analyses to support planning, public works, utilities, public safety, and other operational needs.
  • Creates maps and other GIS products, visualizations, dashboards, reports and analytical products for staff, elected officials, and public distribution.
  • Assists with the configuration, maintenance, and support of GIS applications, including web-based mapping and enterprise GIS platforms.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of automated GIS workflows, tools, and scripts to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Provides technical assistance, troubleshooting, and guidance to GIS users across all city departments.
  • Supports GIS-related projects, including system upgrades, data conversions, and application deployment.
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for GIS data sources, workflows, and system configurations.
  • Supports city staff with GIS software and applications by troubleshooting problems and issues.
  • Provides hands-on GIS training classes; prepares training materials for GIS workflows and tasks.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Typical Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of an accredited community college program with major coursework in geography, computer science, or a related field, along with considerable professional GIS experience. GIS Professional (GISP) certification is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of GIS principles, spatial data models, and cartographic standards; Proficiency with GIS software such as Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, and equivalent GIS platforms; GIS enterprise database design and structure; Working knowledge of spatial databases, data formats, and coordinate systems; Ability to perform spatial analysis and create clear, effective maps and visualizations; considerable knowledge of scripting or automation tools (Python Scripting); Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines; Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users; ability to prepare written and oral presentations; Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Demands
This position involves primarily sedentary work and requires the exertion of up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and negligible force frequently or continuously to move objects. The work requires frequent fingering and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required to express or exchange information, and hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken-word levels. Visual acuity is required for color differentiation; preparing, reviewing, and analyzing written and computer-based data; using measuring devices; operating equipment; determining the accuracy and completeness of work; and observing general surroundings and activities. The employee is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
