Job description

The Geophysicist will be responsible for applying technical evaluations to the development and production of oil and gas reservoirs to obtain a high economic recovery. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support optimal asset development and operations, leveraging fundamental geoscience skills in petroleum systems, stratigraphy and basin studies. Directly responsible for data analysis covering the characterization of source rocks, migration, reservoir, seals and traps integrating knowledge of structural geology, sedimentology, geochemistry, petrophysics and geophysics.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Generate integrated structural and stratigraphic interpretations using seismic and other subsurface geological and geophysical data .

  • Maintain asset characterizations of hydrocarbon volumes, subsurface controls and risks and integrated recovery expectations.

  • Generate optimal field development plans, including but not limited to, delineation of acreage, appraisal of multiple landing targets, and the economic justification for proper well spacing.

  • Work with Development team on recommendations for data acquisition, leasing and drilling projects.

  • Support the Operations Geologist with well planning, the pre-spud process and drilling and completions activity.

  • Work closely with completions and operations engineers to design and propose optimal frac designs and develop drawdown strategies.

  • Evaluate and integrate competitor activity and results.

  • Provide analysis and support for non-op activity, recommendations and decisions.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks

  • Collaborate with the Business Development team on acquisition opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, Licensure

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, Geophysics or related field of study

  • Five to ten (5-10) years of Exploration & Production (E&P) or relevant geoscience experience

  • Proficiency with Kingdom software

  • Possess valid driver's license and clean driving record (MVR) that meet Company's Insurance qualifications to operate Company vehicle

Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure

  • Master of Science Degree in Geophysics or Geology

  • Experience with acquisition and processing of geophysical data

  • Experience in South Texas, Permian or Uinta basins

  • Working knowledge of advanced geophysical interpretation techniques such as attribute and inversion analysis

  • Experience with gravity and magnetics data

  • Knowledge and experience with unconventional development

  • Development planning and/or operations experience

Required Core Competencies - Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Data analysis and geologic mapping.

  • Experience using GIS software and analysis tools.

  • Familiarity with Spotfire and/or Power BI.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to identify issues, troubleshoot, and develop solutions.

  • Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills to be able to make accurate calculations, identify deficiencies, address weaknesses, and how to improve them.
