Obtain and evaluate medical and family histories.

The Genetic Counselor I

  • Provides genetic evaluation and counseling services to patients and families with, or at risk for, genetic conditions. Serves as a resource to physicians, healthcare teams, and community partners.
  • Obtains and evaluates medical and family histories and synthesizes information to support risk assessment, diagnosis, and care planning.
  • Researches and analyzes data from medical literature, databases, and other professional resources to inform patient care.
  • Communicates complex genetic information to patients and collaborates with referring providers regarding diagnoses, risk factors, and management options.
  • Educates patients on testing options, including risks, benefits, and limitations, and supports decision-making based on individual values and needs.
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records, including documentation of consultations and care plans.
  • Provides emotional support and counseling to patients and families and facilitates referrals to appropriate support services and resources.
  • Supports educational initiatives by assisting with instruction of medical students, residents, and other learners.
  • Coordinates genetic and related laboratory testing in accordance with scope of practice.
What We Require:

Education: Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited program required.


Experience: Experience in genetic counseling through graduate school internships required.


Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling required.


Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated clinical, counseling, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records. Occasional meetings outside of clinic hours may be required.

Compensation Range:

$69,721.60 - $104,582.40

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
