Job description

About the role

Join the team responsible for the products at the heart of how Hinge Health delivers care for musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. This team owns our core MSK programs and the build-out of new ones, like our recently launched migraine offering, that let us scale the business into new conditions and reach more members.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll help take new programs of care from early concept to a stable, scaled offering, then keep sharpening what already works. That means building the greenfield features that make a new program a real, differentiated offering, not just an existing treatment experience with a new label. It also means extending and hardening the shared services that power all of our programs. You'll work closely with Product and with engineers across multiple partner teams to ship a coherent, end-to-end program of care for our members.

What You'll Accomplish
  • Drive the pod's technical direction: Act as the primary technical lead for the team, setting and evolving the technical roadmap and making the day-to-day architectural and prioritization calls that keep the pod moving.
  • Bring new programs of care to life: Lead the technical design and delivery of new MSK programs (in the vein of our migraine launch), building the features and workflows that make each program a credible, differentiated offering.
  • Strengthen what's already live: Take newly launched programs from shipped to stable and scaled, improving reliability, performance, and quality as usage grows.
  • Extend our shared platform: Design and build within our existing services (NestJS backend, React Native app, PostgreSQL) to support new programs without fragmenting the platform.
  • Partner deeply with Product: Work hand-in-hand with Product to translate program strategy into technical plans, surfacing trade-offs and options as scope evolves.
  • Collaborate across teams: Coordinate closely with engineers on partner teams to deliver a cohesive member experience across the many services and teams a program touches.
  • Elevate engineering practices: Champion strong practices around CI/CD, testing, and monitoring. Mentor other engineers and raise the bar for the team.
Who You Are
  • A Technical Visionary: You navigate ambiguity well and can turn a broad product goal, like "launch a new program of care," into a concrete, scalable technical plan.
  • A Builder Across Horizons: You're equally comfortable in 0-1 greenfield work and in the less glamorous work of hardening something already live.
  • A Force Multiplier: You raise the level of everyone around you through code review, mentorship, and by setting technical standards that reduce friction.
  • A Natural Collaborator: You thrive working across team boundaries, with Product and with engineers on other teams, to deliver something coherent even when the work spans many services and owners.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of non-internship full-time professional software engineering experience
  • 2+ years of experience with TypeScript/JavaScript across the stack (Node.js/NestJS on the backend; React or React Native on the frontend).
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerization tools.
  • 2+ years of experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar), distributed systems, and microservices architectures.
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring or leading other engineers and collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NestJS & React Native: Direct experience with NestJS. Any mobile app development experience is a plus (React Native or otherwise).
  • Multi-team delivery: Experience shipping a product or feature that required close, ongoing coordination across several engineering teams, not just your own.
  • Regulated Industry Knowledge: Experience working within healthcare (HIPAA) or other highly regulated environments involving sensitive member data.
  • Technical Leadership: Experience informally or formally leading a team's technical direction: setting architecture, sequencing work, and being the go-to technical decision-maker for a pod, without necessarily having formal people-management responsibility.
