Job Summary
The Wellness and Recreation Group Fitness Program has a Group Fitness Instructor responsible for providing patrons with safe, fun, and effective group fitness programming while helping class participants reach their fitness goals based on specific formats.
Responsibilities
Group Fitness Instruction - 40
Plan and implement an engaging and welcoming group fitness class environment for all fitness levels and all class participants
Demonstrate and promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, i.e.: warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
Effectively explain and demonstrate proper exercise techniques, as well as offer modifications to accommodate all participants.
Answer participant questions to support them in achieving their health and wellness goals.
Identify different muscle groups and teach appropriate methods to strengthen and stretch specific muscles.
Safety, Policy & Emergency Response - 10
Understand and enforce Wellness and Recreation and area specific policies and procedures.
Ensure that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required.
Implementation of emergency action plans as needed
Operational & Administrative - 20
Maintain accurate attendance records; keep group fitness equipment, studios, and storage areas clean, sanitized, and properly organized; and support equipment setup, monitoring, and safe return.
Demonstrate reliability and enthusiasm by arriving early, committing to scheduled classes, subbing when needed, and attending required trainings, workshops, and staff meetings.
Support Wellness and Recreation initiatives and special events, uphold departmental expectations, and assist with general departmental functions as needed.
Interactions with staff and participant engagement - 20
Go out of your way to get to know your fellow Wellness and Recreation student and professional staff (example: fitness assistants, member services reps, supervisors, scorekeepers, officials, climbing wall staff, lifeguards, etc.).
Teamwork, initiative, and professionalism.
Build effective, authentic relationships with patrons, help others connect with one another and to the Georgia College community.
Interact with patrons as an ambassador of Wellness and Recreation.

Required Qualifications

Must have or be willing to obtain a current Fitness or Group Fitness related certification; once received must maintain currency to remain active staff; must be willing to obtain and maintain CPR certification
Certifications accepted, but not limited to: ACE, AFAA, NETA, Les Mills, YogaFit, Spinning®, NASM, Zumba, etc)
Required Experience
Current enrollment as a student at the institution; at least half-time status, which is 6 credit hours
Ability to work a flexible schedule around class commitments
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Be an ambassador for all things Wellness and Recreation.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Adult First Aid, CPR/AED Certification, preferred but not required.
Preferred Experience
Prior experience teaching/leading group classes
Proposed Salary
$11.00 / hour
