Job Description

WTVJ is seeking a strong journalist with a passion for news to put an emphasis on content when producing for multiple platforms. On broadcast, you’ll be able to hone and show off your producing skills while maximizing video and graphics on our beautiful set. On other platforms, you’ll be able to help shape the brand we present. You’ll need to line produce, write, copyedit, edit video, gather content and produce elements all under heavy deadline pressure, without compromising accuracy and credibility.  You will work closely with news management, assignment desk editors, anchors, reporters and photographers on the best way to execute content in newscasts and in special coverage.

Key responsibilities:

  • Write and edit content including breaking news for linear TV, streaming channels and other platforms.
  • Collaborate with assignment desk, producers and reporters to research and produce news segments and other content and place on appropriate platform.
  • Ensure that we are being live, urgent and relevant in our storytelling.
  • Check all scripts for accuracy, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Use desktop editing systems to edit video including breaking news.
  • Monitor a variety of news and video sources to identify content that would appeal to our audience.
  • Support reporters, anchors and photographers with content needs.
  • Communicate quickly and effectively in the control room with production and news staff.
  • Work effectively under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, with the ability to multitask across assignments.
  • Ensure all content meets the network’s editorial standards, legal guidelines, and journalistic ethics.
  • Showcase content and visual elements in a compelling and clear way.
  • Embrace innovation and change.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Broadcasting, Journalism or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience writing/producing in a broadcast or cable news environment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and shifts including evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays and breaking news with short notice.
  • Must be willing to work long hours during breaking news, hurricanes and severe weather, if required.
  • Must be willing to work in the newsroom in Miramar, FL.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms, including broadcast, web, and mobile.
  • Experience utilizing social media as a news gathering/reporting tool

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with people while under deadline pressure.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
  • Have passion for current news events and storytelling.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of laws involving libel slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations.
  • Have initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Be a team player flexible enough to quickly change a rundown or plan when needed.
  • Demonstrate integrity, professionalism and respect in the workplace.
