Tax Manager – Private Client & Global Mobility (Expatriate Tax) - Chicago, IL

Who:
We are seeking an experienced Private Client/Global Mobility tax professional with 3–5 years of expatriate tax experience who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to expand expertise in international individual taxation.

What:
You will review and complete U.S. individual tax returns for expatriates and high-net-worth individuals, support payroll reporting and withholding matters, oversee identification number processes, and contribute to staff training and client advisory support.

Position Overview:

The Tax Manager will support expatriate and private client tax engagements, including reviewing individual returns, equalization calculations, payroll reporting, and tax identification processes, while contributing to client advisory work and staff development within a growing Global Mobility practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with reviewing and completing individual U.S. income tax returns, equalization calculations, and related filings for inbound expatriates and foreign investors.

  • Assist with reviewing individual income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals with international investments.

  • Support U.S. payroll reporting and withholding compliance for expatriate employees.

  • Assist with obtaining U.S. tax identification numbers for taxpayers, spouses, and dependents.

  • Provide technical support to senior team members on U.S. and international tax matters.

  • Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to staff and interns.

What You Need to Bring:
  • 3–5 years of Private Client/Global Mobility Expatriate Tax experience with a national, regional, or boutique firm.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (J.D., LL.M., or Master’s in Taxation preferred).

  • Strong planning, research, writing, and communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • CPA license or similar certification (or in progress).

  • German language skills preferred but not required.

  • Experience with manufacturing and distribution clients preferred.

  • ProSystem fx Engagement and CCH Axcess experience.
