Wilmington, MA

Job description

Location/Eligibility: This is a contract position based in Massachusetts.  You must be able to commute to the Wilmington area onsite at least 3 days a week.  For this contract, there is no visa sponsorship available.

We are seeking a Senior Build Systems & Software Robustification Engineer to take full ownership of our build infrastructure, toolchain setup, and software quality framework.
In this role, you will be the ultimate guardian of our C++ robotics stack’s reliability. You will design the infrastructure that ensures our builds are deterministic, our test signals are flawless, and runtime bugs are caught before they ever reach physical hardware. If you are passionate about hermetic compilation, deep compiler diagnostics, and building bulletproof CI/CD pipelines, this mission is for you.

Core Responsibilities
  • Build System Architecture: Design, optimize, and maintain the build and toolchain configurations for a high-performance C++ robotics stack.

  • Harden the Stack: Implement and wire static analysis tools and runtime sanitizers (ASan, TSan, UBSan) seamlessly into the development workflow, ensuring full traceability across the testing pipeline.

  • Reproducible Infrastructure: Architect and enable completely reproducible, hermetic production builds. The system must allow developers to rebuild any component from an arbitrary point in time and run exact regression tests against it.

  • CI/CD & Developer Ergonomics: Drastically improve CI signal reliability, eliminate flaky tests, and build out robust artifact/version traceability. Elevate the developer experience by keeping the quality suite fast, clear, and actionable.

Technical Requirements (Must-Have)
  • Advanced C++ Build Systems: Deep mastery of modern C++ build systems, specifically CMake or Bazel.

  • Runtime & Static Analysis: Expert-level experience configuring and debugging with runtime sanitizers (ASan, TSan, UBSan) and static analysis suites.

  • Hermetic Builds: Proven track record designing reproducible, hermetic build pipelines and managing complex compiler toolchains.

  • CI/CD Infrastructure: Experience building and scaling deterministic CI/CD pipelines with strong automated verification.

  • Systems Programming Literacy: Strong fundamentals in modern C++ to effectively interface with our core codebase and debug compilation/linking bottlenecks.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
  • Cross-Compilation: Experience handling embedded or ARM cross-build environments (e.g., targeting NVIDIA Jetson or custom embedded Linux).

  • Supply-Chain Security: Familiarity with software supply-chain security, dependency tracking, and artifact provenance.

  • Domain Experience: Background working within robotics stacks (ROS 2/DDS environments) or safety-critical engineering domains (aerospace, automotive, medical).

Are you the right fit?

You are a software engineer who believes that a broken build or a flaky CI test is a systemic failure. You thrive on order, predictability, and automation. You prefer fixing the root cause of a compiler toolchain bug over applying a quick script band-aid, and you take pride in giving your fellow developers an effortless, bulletproof environment to ship code quickly and safely.
