Job Description Summary
The Department of Social Sciences of Shawnee State University invites applications for a Social Science Generalist full-time instructor to teach introductory classes in World History, Geography, and Anthropology, primarily in support of the Adolescent to Young Adult Social Sciences Licensure program and the University's General Education Program. This is a one-year position with appointment at the rank of instructor. Instruction in this area will be primarily in person, with some course assignments online. The course load is 15 credit hours (5 courses) per Semester. The position may be renewed for an additional year at the discretion of the University based on teaching performance and continuing departmental need. Salary is dependent on degree and prior relevant experience. The Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or have documented legal status to work in the US.

The Department of Social Sciences is a multi-disciplinary Department offering degree paths in AYA Social Science Licensure, Political Science, History, Sociology, a BA in Psychology, and several additional minors. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach courses as needed in area of specialization either in person or online. Meet all classes and deliver instruction as appropriate to the nature of the course;

  • Actively participate in student retention and advising efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. MA in one of the following areas: History, Anthropology/Archaeology, Geography.
  2. Prior successful teaching experience at the University level in one or more of the above areas.
  3. Ability to work constructively with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Research in one of the above areas and/or progress towards a PhD.
