Mechanical Design Engineer (100% Onsite) – Packaging Machinery & Automation

Location: Miami, FL

Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 per year (DOE)

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Employment Type: Full-Time

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team focused on the design and development of custom automated packaging machinery and industrial automation equipment.

This is a hands-on machine design role responsible for taking projects from concept and engineering through fabrication, assembly, testing, and production release. The ideal candidate has experience designing packaging machinery, robotic automation systems, conveyors, palletizing equipment, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), and other custom industrial equipment using SolidWorks.

Unlike traditional product design roles, this position works closely with manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, and automation teams to develop real-world machinery solutions used in production environments.

This position is performed onsite at the company's Miami facility and requires daily interaction with engineering, fabrication, machining, and assembly departments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom automated packaging machinery and automation systems
  • Create detailed machine assemblies, manufacturing drawings, layouts, and bills of materials using SolidWorks
  • Design packaging equipment including fillers, cappers, labelers, bottle handling systems, conveyors, case packers, palletizers, and integrated packaging lines
  • Develop robotic automation solutions including EOAT, robotic handling systems, and pick-and-place applications
  • Design servo-driven machinery, motion control assemblies, machine tooling, change parts, and automated handling equipment
  • Engineer machine frames, guarding, fixtures, structural components, and custom mechanical assemblies
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical and automation systems
  • Support fabrication, machining, assembly, testing, and equipment validation activities
  • Review customer requirements and develop engineered machinery solutions
  • Improve machine performance, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability
  • Maintain engineering documentation, technical drawings, and manufacturing packages
  • Participate in continuous improvement and new product development initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical machine design or automation equipment design
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience
  • Experience designing custom machinery, packaging equipment, automation systems, robotics, or industrial equipment
  • Experience creating complete machine assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials
  • Strong understanding of machine design principles and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with motion control systems, servo-driven equipment, pneumatics, and automation technologies
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work onsite full-time in Miami, Florida

Preferred Experience

  • Packaging machinery design
  • Secondary packaging systems
  • Robotic integration
  • End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT)
