Job description

Wolverine Power Cooperative is currently hiring two dispatchers to support our member distribution cooperatives. In this role, you'll provide critical after-hours coordination and communication that helps our members respond to outages, service interruptions, equipment issues, and other operational events.

Whether responding to outages, service interruptions, equipment issues, member inquiries, or other operational events, our member cooperatives depend on timely, accurate communication and documentation. As a dispatcher, you'll play an important behind-the-scenes role by gathering information, coordinating communications, monitoring system activity, and ensuring critical information reaches our member cooperatives.

While much of the work happens behind the scenes, your efforts directly support our member electric cooperatives that serve homes, businesses, farms, schools, and essential services throughout Michigan.

What You'll Do

No two shifts are exactly alike. Responsibilities may include:

  • Receiving calls and gathering critical information related to outages, service concerns, and operational issues.
  • Creating and updating outage and trouble tickets in designated systems.
  • Coordinating communications with member cooperative personnel and on-call responders.
  • Monitoring outage management, GIS, and other operational systems to maintain situational awareness.
  • Documenting outage activity, status updates, and operational information.
  • Supporting restoration efforts by ensuring accurate and timely information flow.
  • Maintaining detailed records and logs to support system operations and reporting.

What Makes This Role Different?

You'll work in a 24/7 operations environment alongside experienced professionals who support electric system operations throughout Michigan. Every shift brings new challenges, from assisting with outage response and restoration efforts to supporting member cooperatives during service interruptions, equipment issues, member calls, and other events requiring timely coordination and communication.

This role provides a unique opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to utility operations, outage management systems, GIS technology, and the processes that help keep electric service reliable for communities across the state.

Who Thrives in This Role?

We're looking for people who:

  • Remain calm and professional during stressful situations.
  • Are highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Enjoy problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Can manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Are comfortable learning and working with multiple software systems simultaneously.

Successful candidates may come from backgrounds in dispatching, public safety, emergency services, military operations, transportation, utility operations, industrial operations, or other fast-paced environments.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred.
  • One to two years of experience in a technical, utility, dispatch, public safety, industrial operations, or similar environment.
  • Strong computer and data-entry skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a 24/7/365 operation.

Growth Opportunity

This position offers the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of utility operations while supporting Wolverine's member distribution cooperatives. You'll receive training in distribution operations, outage response, utility systems, call handling, and control center procedures.

About Wolverine

Wolverine Power Cooperative exists to support its member distribution cooperatives and help provide reliable electric service throughout Michigan. Our employees play a direct role in supporting the cooperative mission and helping our members deliver safe, reliable power to the communities they serve.

If you're looking for a role where your work matters, every shift brings something different, and you can make a meaningful impact behind the scenes, we'd love to hear from you.

Studies show that individuals from underrepresented groups, including women and people of color, often hesitate to apply for jobs unless they meet every qualification. At Wolverine, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. If you're passionate about this role but don't meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. Your unique experiences and perspectives are what help us grow stronger as a team.
