Job description

Director of Ecommerce
Location: San Francisco, CA (Onsite)
We are partnering with a growing consumer brand seeking a hands-on Director of Ecommerceto lead the strategy, architecture, and execution of its ecommerce platform and digital technology ecosystem.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical leadership with hands-on development. You'll serve as the technical owner of a Shopify Plus environment, lead major platform enhancements and migrations, optimize integrations across the marketing technology stack, and ensure a scalable, secure foundation that supports continued business growth across ecommerce and other sales channels.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, development, and ongoing optimization of the Shopify Plus platform, including major platform enhancements and future technical roadmap initiatives.
  • Design, build, and maintain integrations across the ecommerce and marketing technology ecosystem.
  • Own both front-end and back-end ecommerce development, including custom Shopify functionality.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional business leaders to translate business objectives into scalable technical solutions.
  • Evaluate third-party platforms, applications, and technology partners based on integration capabilities, scalability, security, total cost of ownership, and long-term business value.
  • Ensure platform reliability, performance, uptime, and security by implementing best practices and coordinating with internal and external technology partners as needed.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance while remaining actively involved in coding, solution design, and implementation.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the ecommerce technology stack to support future growth and evolving business needs.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of ecommerce engineering or ecommerce technology experience.
  • Deep expertise with Shopify Plus, including Liquid, Storefront API, Checkout Extensibility, and custom theme development.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining complex integrations across modern ecommerce and marketing technology platforms.
  • Strong full-stack development experience with the ability to write, review, and troubleshoot production code.
  • Demonstrated success translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting omnichannel retail environments is a plus.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term architecture with hands-on execution.
