Site Engineering Manager

As we deliver our ambitious 2030 growth strategy, we're looking for a Site Engineering Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Engineering department. Ensuring departmental operations meets business requirements, operational budgets and that all processes are compliant with Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) and cGMP rules defined by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the Croda Group, Region, Business Sector and Avanti as well as guidance from recognized regulatory bodies. Accountability for administrative and technical oversight, spending, and strategic direction of Capital Program & Maintenance Program. Serve as a member of the local Site Leadership Team that has the functional responsibility for developing and implementing a site-specific operational strategy ensuring organizational capability and appropriate management of the site. Collaborating with peers in SHE and Quality to ensure plant utilities, equipment and systems are operated in a cost-effective manner that are compliant with all safety and quality policies and regulations.
Who We're Looking For:
  • A bachelor's degree preferably in engineering, basic science, or business management with a sufficiently demonstrated level of performance and capability, as determined by management.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience as production manager, process manager, project manager, or plant engineer
  • Experience in a regulated industry, preferably pharmaceutical, medical device, or food.
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical product/excipient manufacturing process.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement business strategies, i.e., organizational structure, change management, budget development, project management, and strategic staffing plan.
  • Recognize unanticipated or adverse outcomes or deviations; able to use technical expertise, experience, data analysis, and creativity to evaluate and identify root causes to propose corrective actions or resolutions of increasing complexity independently and rapidly take corrective actions to resolve technical problems of suitable complexity.
  • Knowledge and experience with regulations related to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Knowledge of the use of PPE, safety protocols and practices related to working with air exposure to hazardous chemicals that could potentially affect the health of the employee.
  • Excellent leadership and team development skills.
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal and written).
  • Actively contributes to the improvement of policy, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with customers and employees at all levels including senior management.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Provides administrative and technical oversight for maintenance, utilities, plant and project engineering, validation, site engineering competencies, and information technology functions.
  • Ensure departmental operations meet business requirements, operational budgets and that all processes are compliant with SHE and cGMP regulations.
  • It is accountable for departmental capital spend, engineering expense budget, determination and performance of engineering providers, reliability of assets over short and longer term, and maintenance of engineering standards.
  • Determines the strategic direction of site engineering, setting the plan for processes and manages interdepartmental relationships to increase efficiency and profitability.
  • Develop and adapt processes and organizational structure to provide necessary management, capabilities, and resources to create a culture of operational excellence with the aim being to achieve growth plans through capex and continuous improvements.
  • Collaborates with peers in SHE and Quality to ensure plant utilities, equipment and systems are operated in a cost-effective manner that are compliant with all safety and quality policies and regulations.
  • Determines and implements the maintenance philosophy for the site to ensure all utilities, equipment, and systems are operated and maintained to deliver optimal reliability and uptime.
  • Ensure departmental adherence to all SHE programs and rules.
  • Instill a culture of personal accountability for individual behaviors related to SHE activities.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to coworkers on safe and unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Actively participate in the SHE management system.
  • Responsible for performance management, coaching and mentoring of direct reports.
  • Create well-defined performance plans and development opportunities for direct reports and hold them accountable for the successful completion of predefined goals and objectives.
  • Provide training resources and professional development opportunities for staff to improve manufacturing operations as they relate to safety, operational excellence, process optimization, risk management, usage of new equipment and industry best practices.
  • Seek opportunities to coach, mentor and influence all staff, including peers, for the purpose of developing future Avanti leaders.
  • Develop a succession planning strategy for the production team and champion the career interests of appropriate employees.
  • Establish and maintain functional training curriculum for the production department.
  • Ensure departmental resource utilization and staff readiness with respect to capacity, training and capability are enough to meet operational requirements and customer expectations.
  • Utilize reward and disciplinary processes as appropriate to motivate employees.
  • Supervise the production department as appropriate to ensure all staff can perform the following work tasks to ensure Safety, Identity, Strength, Purity, and Quality (SISPQ) of products manufactured at Avanti. This includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Strict adherence to all written instructions and procedures to ensure all steps of an operation are appropriately followed.
  • Strict adherence to good documentation practices to ensure all steps of an operation are appropriately documented.
  • Create manufacturing procedures and SOPs.
  • Perform root cause investigations where processes or products do not conform to written procedures or specifications.
  • Maintain all work areas in a state of cleanliness and sanitation through good housekeeping practices and applying good personal health practices.
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel and products by wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to the operation being executed.
  • Promote a culture to report any action that could impact the SISPQ of any product immediately to supervision.
  • Ensure appropriate functional leadership and support for internal and external teams or projects.
  • Drive and empower decision making to the lowest level within the organization.
  • Participate and support the site leadership initiative to create a fundamental engineering framework.
  • Establish relevant metrics to improve OEE.
  • Evaluate and make organizational changes as necessary to create the most effective department structure.
  • Create departmental job and or function descriptions for all positions.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement to business processes with the aim of increasing safety and efficiency within the operation.
